Police are preparing to question more witnesses and victims regarding alleged abuses by former deputy police chief, Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, against his subordinates. The accusations, involving incidents reportedly occurring between two and eight years ago, were filed only this week. With a statute of limitations of 10 years, investigations spearheaded by Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew of the CIB are underway.

The complaints surfaced from former aides Pol Lt Col Krit Priyakate and Pol Col Aris Kooprasitrat, who allege physical and verbal abuse from Surachate. Krit recounts a specific incident on February 20, 2017, claiming his eardrum was ruptured due to a hard slap from Surachate, resulting in permanent hearing loss. Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat noted that evidence, including a 2017 medical certificate and witness testimonies, will be crucial in the investigation.

Aris reported enduring severe mental abuse in recent years, with a medical evaluation diagnosing him with depression. He alleges that attempts to return to a previous role were met with threats of dismissal by Surachate. Investigators are determining whether these acts could qualify as coercion, and summonses for the accused are expected soon. Jaroonkiat clarified no arrest warrant exists at this stage.

Surachate, aware of the complaints, is preparing a legal response, maintaining his presence in Thailand. Meanwhile, the Supreme Administrative Court recently upheld a decision to dismiss him from the police force, citing alleged links to online gambling—a charge he denies, attributing it to internal police rivalry. Another investigation targets Surachate for alleged bribery involving 16 million baht in gold bars to a National Anti-Corruption Commission member, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Allegations of abuse against Surachate include physical and mental harm.

  • Evidence includes medical records and testimonials from witnesses.

  • Surachate faces multiple legal challenges and investigations.

Turns out he was not to be the blue-eyed boy many on here were convinced of.........but not me!

Excellent news it's about time this thug, who's been masquerading as Mr. Clean is finally brought to justice. I'm hopeful he'll be convicted and imprisoned, he deserves that, he likely has billions stashed away from his stints as immigration chief and deputy director of the RTP, and yet he's somehow managed to convince millions that he's a cleanup crusader.

I am convinced that is total BS. Lock him up!

I wholeheartedly agree. I never got the infatuation many posters had with the guy, it was so incredibly naive.

What? Are you a macho cop or a Hello Kitty character?

When someone slaps you, you immediately return the favor in such a way that it will never ever happen again.

You don't wait nine years to complain about it just before the statutes of limitations run out, unless...

Totally agree with your statement. From the moment he came on the scene he was a racist xenophobic bully, flying around the country making life a misery for expats. His dislike of us was so apparent.
