Police have raided an illegal denture clinic in the centre of Khon Kaen, arresting the owner for producing and selling dentures without a licence, after complaints that customers suffered oral infections. The operation was led by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau in coordination with the Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, highlighting ongoing risks to public health from unregulated medical services.

The raid took place on January 23, following a search warrant issued by the Khon Kaen Provincial Court under warrant number ค.24/2569 dated January 22. Officers searched a denture shop in Nai Mueang subdistrict, Mueang district, Khon Kaen, and arrested the owner, Ms Pensiri, aged 62, a Khon Kaen resident. She was charged with producing and selling medical devices (dentures) without permission and operating an unregistered medical establishment.

The operation was ordered by Pol Lt Gen Surapol Prembutr, Commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, together with senior officers including Pol Lt Gen Naradet Thiprak, Pol Maj Gen Wiwat Khamchamnan, and Pol Maj Gen Thinnakorn Rangmat. The investigative team was led by Pol Maj Gen Komkrit Sukthai and Pol Col Adichat Amornpradit of Cyber Crime Division 3, working alongside provincial health officials.

The case stemmed from complaints received by the Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office from members of the public who reported developing oral infections after using the clinic’s services. Investigators found that the shop advertised the manufacture and repair of all types of dentures on social media, promoting low-cost services to the general public. This prompted further investigation and the subsequent raid.

During questioning, Ms Pensiri admitted that she and her husband had previously worked as denture technicians at a dental clinic in Bangkok. She stated that neither of them had formal education or professional qualifications in dental technology, relying instead on experience gained informally from dentists at the previous workplace. After returning to Khon Kaen, she opened a small denture shop serving local residents.

She told police the shop had been operating for approximately 20 years, charging between 600 and 4,000 baht depending on the complexity of the work or the number of teeth involved. She acknowledged that the business was never registered with the relevant authorities and that no permission had been obtained to produce or sell medical devices. Police have taken her into custody to face legal proceedings.

Daily News reported that authorities said the case underscores the dangers of unlicensed medical services and urged the public to seek treatment only from properly registered providers. The investigation may be expanded to identify affected customers and assess potential public health impacts, while regulatory agencies consider further enforcement actions.

Key Takeaways

• Police arrested a 62-year-old woman in Khon Kaen for running an unlicensed denture clinic for about 20 years.

• The clinic was linked to oral infections among customers and advertised low-cost services on social media.

• Authorities warned the public about health risks from unregulated medical and dental services.

It took them 20 years to raid this illegal operation? I have trouble believing the complaints started only recently.

"...The investigation may be expanded to identify affected customers and assess potential public health impacts, while regulatory agencies consider further enforcement actions..."!

One has to wonder if the authorities have already traced those dentures in the photograph back to their owners, or if there will be a higher demand for Khao Thom soup in the Khon Kaen area until they are returned. funny-old-man-pictures-1ytezd2nzh36typb.jpg

Going by that photo of the dentist he's done a good job on his own dentures.

This is worrying! You can engage in illegal activities and stay safe for 15 to 20 years? That's going to give ideas to a lot of unscrupulous people.

Nice to see the BIB get their teeth into something, albeit a bit late.

It's her first brush with the law.....

That's the dental equivalent of a 20 year overstay.

Medical oversight seems to be as effective as the 90 day reporting.

Do they eventually auction off the confiscated dentures? Some of them look like they are in pretty good condition. Well better than what I have now. Anyone know where they hold the auctions
