A violent street altercation involving foreign tourists left an American man unconscious in Pattaya in the early hours of 25 January 2026, prompting police intervention and emergency medical treatment. The incident occurred at around 4.30am in Soi Buakhao and drew a crowd of onlookers before officers arrived to restore order.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station were alerted to reports of a fight with injuries and coordinated with volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation to attend the scene. When authorities arrived, they found groups of foreign tourists gathered nearby and confirmed that the injured man, an American national, was lying unconscious on the road. He had swelling and bruising to both eyes and visible facial injuries and was given first aid at the scene.

The confrontation followed a dispute between tourists that escalated into violence. Video footage recorded by a bystander showed a male tourist wearing a black shirt delivering a forceful kick to the American man’s face, causing him to collapse unconsciousness in the middle of the street. The recording later became part of the police inquiry into the incident.

Officers detained three suspects at the scene, all British nationals, and escorted them to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning. Both the suspects and the injured party told investigators that the fight stemmed from an argument and a misunderstanding that spiralled into a physical confrontation. A witness who filmed the incident said the group had earlier exited a beer bar before clashing in front of a hotel, where the kick that knocked the American unconscious occurred amid the chaos.

During the investigation, Pol Lt Col Itthiporn Tangchuthawisap, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Pattaya City Police Station, oversaw mediation between the parties. All involved accepted responsibility for their actions and agreed to reconcile during questioning, reportedly sitting together and embracing to signal an end to the dispute. Police said the resolution was reached amicably without further escalation.

As an initial legal measure, officers issued fines to all tourists involved for fighting in a public place. Each person was fined 1,000 baht before being released, with a formal warning not to repeat such behaviour. Police stressed that public altercations can damage the tourism image and said they would continue to monitor nightlife areas closely to prevent similar incidents.

Key Takeaways

• An American tourist was knocked unconscious during a street fight in Pattaya on 25 January 2026.

• Three British tourists were detained, questioned, and later fined 1,000 baht each for public fighting.

• Police mediated a reconciliation and warned that such incidents harm tourism.

  • The article doesn't say who started the fight. It might have been the American after telling them they would be speaking German if it weren't for him.

I am wondering who the boy/man is in the black/white blocked shirt.. is he involved or helping and why did he left the scene.. I don't know what is worse for the image of Pattaya, sex on the beach or this... But ridiculous to give fine of 1000 THB and a warning not to do it again.. They must be prosecuted with all costs and even jailtime. Not normal behaviour unless they do it in their home country too.... And I agree with everybody who wrote that alcohol sales and entertainment venues opening must be limited to 2 am...

Regardless of how you feel about what took place, the moral of the story ends up being don't get in a confrontation with strangers, unless you have some real fighting skills, you never know who you're facing, and the potential for great injury is high when you start an argument with a total stranger on the street that you know nothing about.

In this day and age, why are you traveling to Pattaya or Phuket?

It's a pretty big country..........fly into Krabi,,, Lanta? Fly into Phuket but go north?

Kanchanaburi floating river accommodations, yea. Slept like a baby with my bedroll, floating up and down.

No reason to get hostile, have a good time.

If you look at the video, at the end, one person is kicking another until pushed away by bystanders. But the victim there, doesn't appear to be the same person shown in the middle of the video, wearing a red shirt.

So there seems to have been at least two altercations, different people, with the same kicker.

LOL.

I actually heard a loudmouth American at a restaurant on Soi 8 bragging about saying exactly that to some Brits.

Amazingly stupid.

Not only said that but doubled down and bragged about saying it.

Whatever nation you're from you don't kick anyone in the face when you're down - not UFC

White trash idiocy. If the police were doing their jobs, this wouldn't be a news item. This is what Pattaya tolerates, as the insignificant 1000 baht fines demonstrate. The unfortunate aspect of this is that the decent people who live in the Pattaya region get tarred by these events.

The Fake News is reporting on a very SAD situation in Pattaya! A great American Patriot—doing a fantastic job representing our Country—was viciously attacked by three British "tough guys" (NOT TOUGH!). They use the boots because they can't use the hands! Cowards!

I’m hearing the argument started because the American told them the TRUTH about who really won World War II. They didn't like it! Without us, they’d be speaking a different language, folks, and it wouldn’t be English! The Thai Police—who I have a great relationship with, very strong people—gave them a 1,000 Baht fine. THAT'S IT? $30? Disgraceful! Our people are being treated very unfairly while these shirtless low-lifes roam the streets. We need STRENGTH back in our foreign policy. If I were there, those Brits would be on the first plane back to London, believe me!

MAGA! 🇺🇸👊🐘

Not even allowed in UFC.

By the way. Will it not be hard to kick somebody in the face when you are down, or do you have long legs? 😉 (Just messing with you)

So he was kicked in the face and then collapsed, implying he was standing when he was kicked, not lying in the road.

Can you people not read/comprehend?

You might wish to watch the video, before accusing others in being unable to comprehend.

There were, in fact, two 'victims'. Not sure if they are both in the truck. The one in the red shirt could be the one who was kicked on the ground. Also the one diagonally opposite him may have been attacked by the one in between them, leaning against the cab. Not sure about the Brit/American angle, since there were two different people attacked by the same man.

On reviewing the video, I see two fighting. Shirtless and the one doing the kicking. The one in the blue shirt is trying to protect the man on the ground. Shirtless and the kicker run away. Then later in the video, the kicker is kicking someone else. Shirtless is there too. The victim may be the other person in the truck and the one you see holding a cloth, behind the kicker in the station.

The 'kicker' kicked both when they were already down.

I think two, not three. Two attackers and two victims in separate incidents.
