As far as I understand, Israel is not happy about this but has allowed it under considerable pressure.

An OP has reported that Hamas attacked the border crossing before its reopening. I can find no evidence of that assertion.

I entered Egypt at that crossing many years ago. We had to wait for many hours while a convoy was built up it then had a full military escort all the way into Cairo.

It's been closed for a very long time.
