you call it flawed methodology?

i call it an easy way to avoid a dangerous and frequent cause of rear-end collisions!!!

It's just common sense and good defensive driving. Judge your reaction time vs speed. As stated, taught 1 car length per 10 mph, but overkill at higher speeds, unless not paying attention, and almost hard to maintain that distance all the time on Thai roads, or in any country.

Depends on conditions and what you are driving. Wet or snow/ice covered road or operating a truck or pick up, and need to allow for more than average car.

More important, is the distance away from the idiot behind you. Closer they are, the further you need to be from the vehicle in front of you. If you're not peeking in your mirrors, at least every minutes or less, then you're not driving defensively.

Then you should leave a lot of space in between the vehicle in front of you. Especially if you can't see through their windshield and what's in front of them.

In the UK we are taught "2 seconds"

  • Only a fool breaks the two second rule 😄

  • Use to be rule of thumb, one car length for every 10 mph. Though very hard to maintain at times, most times in traffic or on highway. Common sense should prevail, and most know how long it will tak

Tailgating here. TH, is silly at times, and when someone is on my butt, I simply wait till I can move over and let them pass. Also means, if in traffic, I will actually slow down, and allow more space between myself and car in front of me. Oh well, patience is a virtue.

Na, just stay in the right line, and let them zig zag themselves out of it to save zero time in the end. Do like thais when in Thailand, and stay safe and do not move when you found your line.

Rule of thumb, keep 3 seconds to the other car, but thats not even possible in thailand without someone constantly cutting you off.

I can't do it, stay in right lane when I notice them approaching. If it doesn't inconvenience me, then I'll move over. Besides being courteous, and hating it myself, when slow traffic right lane, it is actually the law. Even though I'm doing the limit, or a tad over myself, I'll yield to them.

Really don't want them behind me anyway, or trying to pass me on the left when not safe. I actually find most 'highway' driver, safe & courteous. City drivers, everyone seems to be in a hurry, and not so courteous.

I know, it is a pain in the ass, but here in Thailand moving is a bigger risk than doing nothing, hence the driving culture here. I useally put on the emergency blinker if Im stuck in the line following the traffic, and it useally helps, or I do move if it is little guy in a big truck.

I truly hate the Ford raptor drivers,
