Snake in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Brought the kids home from school and my son gets out the car and goes, "there's a snake on the house". It was climbing the outside of the house, then plonked itself on a ledge outside the windows.

It was quite long, I would say 1-1.2m, but quite thin, maybe 5cm diameter.

From Googling it seems it's a Golden Tree snake?

It’s a common Asian Rat Snake, they are everywhere, all over Asia, can get up to 6 feet long, and eat rats, if you have a mouse problem in your compound, you will find these hiding everywhere, soon, no mice. Hope you just let it go on its merry way, he’s looking for mice to eat. Peace

Update - looked in my book, and it is similar to a Golden Tree snake, but coloration is different:golden-tree-snake-chrysopelea-ornata-golden-tree-snake-chrysopelea-ornata-tropical-reptile-thailand-178735635-2693737544.jpg

Thank you, shows that you shouldn't automatically trust what Google tells you (although they seem quite similar).

We did, indeed, let it go on its way and it soon disappeared. And I have never seen a mouse!

Might be a good indication that ‘he’s on the job’ if you haven’t seen a mouse 👍
