Stolen phones

Featured Replies

Just heard on UK News that illiegal immigrants who had their phones taken off them back in 2020, when the law said it was illegal, will now get compensation because the law has changed since then. Totalling GBP 500M

Does that mean that anyone hanged before abolition of death penalty can get similar money.

Or anyone caught speeding before the 30 mph limit was imposed.

Seems your understanding is incorrect. The law was deemed illegal, not changed since.

Deary, deary me. The silly things that some people get all upset about.

The problem is that UK taxpayers are the people paying out for this. Seems reasonable for them to be unhappy...

£500k between 70 illegal migrants, that's over £7,000 per person.

The UK continues to be the laughing stock of the world, being dictated to by lefty judges and Starmer's human rights lawyer mates 🤦‍♂️

The article you quoted indicates it's been changed.

Ministers have since passed fresh legislation explicitly allowing authorities to seize electronic devices from migrants.
