Colbert Sticks it to MAGA/CBS/Weiss; Another Trumpian “Own Goal”

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Late Night host Stephen Colbert was to include an interview with Texas House Rep James Talarico, who is now a candidate for the US Senate, but he was told not only to not air the interview, but not to mention that it was pulled. He ignored both demands from right-leaning Trumpist CBS and its new director of news, Bari Weiss.

Colbert noted on his show that the interview had been pulled, and also had it posted on YouTube, where it has already gotten 5 million views. That is 50% more than Fox News weekday Prime Time ratings number.

Note this is not the first time Trump or his White House minions have tried to cancel James Talarico, as an interview on the daytime show The View was also quashed.

In the YouTube video, Talarico says it is increasingly likely Dems will flip Texas, a State Trump won by 14 points in 2024. He also noted that his grass roots campaign has broken funding records, without taking a single cent from corporate PACS. Talarico is a centrist Democrat.

Talarico also echoed author and comedian John Fugelsang by saying Christian Nationalists are not Christians. Talarico is a man of faith, and noted the Gospel of Matthew, which is in stark contrast to what Christian Nationalists spout. As Fugelsang says, Jesus is their hero, but they hate his actual teachings of humility, caring for the poor, welcoming the stranger, etc. Christian Nationalists focus on issues that Jesus never once noted: abortion and gay marriage. Jesus is merely a front for their hate and bigotry.

One funny part of the interview was about a Bill in the Texas House where Republicans wanted to ban “Furies”. Furies are supposedly children who think they are cats, and Republicans invented a lie that Biden signed some Bill or Executive Order requiring all States to put litter boxes in all public schools. Of course, furies do not exist, and Biden signed no such Bill. It’s just a Republican lie. Like many fake social issues, this was yet another diversion to capture the weak minded MAGA world, all so Trump et al could continue their wanton corruption and destruction of the US Constitution.

Until the Talarico interview was quashed, he was a Texas issue only. He was almost unknown nationally. In typical Trumpian style, the Trumpers scored an own goal, as now Talarico has bucket loads of attention focused not only on him, but on the fascist way in which MAGA tried to quash him. MAGA IS “Cancel Culture”, or at least tries to be.

Texas has little hope for the future. Listening to him speak on Welfare nailed my support. Doubt even a candidate like this could get elected but Texas Zero hope

Quite obvious you haven't seen the actual facts behind this and are simply parroting the already debunked narrative. This was all about the FCC equal-time rule. Colbert chose not to air this as it would mean he would have to give equal time to Jasmine Crockett if she wanted it. CBS's legal team pointed this fact out to him. This is about the Senate primaries for the Democrats in Texas. Crockett herself has said Trump had nothing to do with this. So now ask yourself why wouldn't Colbert want to give equal time to Crockett? Colbert has been fully caught out on this one as have you.

Since the star of this post is Stephen Colbert, I'm going to add a bit of his humor.

As has been reported in the press, DHS Chief Christi Noem and DHS employee Corey Lewandowski travel together on a decked out Boeing 737 Max "on official DHS business". The aircraft has a bedroom in the back, where it has been reported the two often go together. (Both are married with children separately). Noem is famous for shooting her pet while serving as Governor of North Dakota, for those unaware. She wrote in her book that the 14 month old pet was "untrainable".

In his monologue, Colbert said, "If that romantic part is true...Corey...a word of warning: Avoid doggy style."

I will add: Lewandowski demanded he not only be given an official firearm, but that he be allowed to carry it when working. I think I now know why. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say....or maybe forearmed is foreplay?

That "moron" has had an 11 year run on his show, after his stint on Comedy Central, and as far as I know he isn't the kind of guy searching for 500 baht per night flop houses and 30 baht street food. For a "moron", who may not even have an 'online IQ of 137' (LOL!), he's sure run rings around you professionally and financially. Of course that may be a very short run. Makes you think, no?

You play hero and villians. Colbert is your hero and Trump the villian. So basically you are a 14yo boy.

I rarely eat street food. Prefer restaurants. Street food is not fresh or that interesting.

But given you look down on Thais from your soap box one wonders why you moved there.

But you blame Bush for the GFC when it was Clinton policies. Obama failed to get UE below 4.7% in 8 years but you claim Trump is bad with his 3.5% best and lowest poverty readings in 50 years.

Biden could barely walk 100m but you actually think he created jobs or made decisions? The Democrats told him what to say and sign. The economic cycles and top 500 companies drive the economy.

Why don't you be honest about it?

Oh you eat steet food lol

Dear oh dear. Your comments are about as hard hitting as a 80yo woman ie Colbert

Any tv host that isnt 50/50 should be questioned why they are so biased?

It isnt even current affairs or news. It is Democrat promoting crap.

Does that go for radio shows too? For some strange reason, the FCC has no plan of changing the rules for radio shows.

Yep radio as well be good. Be objective. Present positive data. UE fell 0.2%. Thats great for the nation. Inflation fell 0.3% that helps.

Why be so biased? Talk about the numbers not the man.

I remember Rush Limbaugh saying in his heyday:

I AM equal time.

Comedians should make jokes about DeNiro. Remember when he did a good film? I was 10 and I'm 55 now lol

That is fine for the news, Colbert (and the radio shows) is entertainment, not news. That is the reason they at the moment are exempted from the 50/50 rule.

Like you (and Fox News) did during Biden's presidency?

It seems that your knowledge outweighs that of the CBS legal team that informed Colbert that if he aired this then equal time could be sought by others, others in this case being Crockett. As for late night talk shows the rule still applies when interviewing a politician in an election period which this clearly was.

Deniro is a mid level actor at best. Hes been irrelevant for decades.

The rules has not changed, yet. That is a fact! You are welcome to present proof of a change.

CBS may have other reasons to be afraid of what the FCC might do or not do; not regarding the 50/50 rule but regarding other things where they have the right of determination.

I repeat even Jasmine Crockett has come out and said the Federal Government had nothing to do with pulling the show from air. The FCC told CBS they could go ahead an air the show but that equal-time would apply. CBS legal team told Colbert and Colbert fabricated a reason why it could not go to air.

“Talarico is a centrist Democrat.”

He’s way more than that, a great candidate who talks directly to the influential rightwing Christian Nationalists and challenges them on the scripture they misrepresent.

He’s one to watch for a future Presidential run.

Did you miss the discussion above that equal time does not apply to talk show hosts?

Did you miss my point that when interviewing candidates during an election period equal-time DOES apply.

CBS in a statement to The Hill denied Colbert’s account.

“The Late Show was not prohibited by CBS from broadcasting the interview with Rep. James Talarico,” a spokesperson for the network said. “The show was provided legal guidance that the broadcast could trigger the FCC equal-time rule for two other candidates, including Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and presented options for how the equal time for other candidates could be fulfilled.”

It was “The Late Show” itself, CBS said, that “decided to present the interview through its YouTube channel with on-air promotion on the broadcast rather than potentially providing the equal-time options.”

If he pulls off this upset in Texas you could be spot on the money. He just needs for Trump to keep on babbling and making himself look like a fool to pull it off. Does not seem like an impossible task.

This was all planned out. The GOP knew this would blow up and give a lot of air to Talarico so he'd win the primary over Crockett. They're very afraid of Crockett.

I’ll be charitable.

CBS and Bari Weiss in particular are engaged in anticipatory obedience.

How about just admitting you're wrong. The Trump administration had nothing to do with this and Colbert's claim is BS and the OP has fallen for the lies.

Colbert did not claim that the administration directly told CBS not to air the interview. He blamed the CBS lawyers for adhering to a law that does not exist, yet. The FCC had made clear what they wanted despite the law as it is at the moment. It is no secret why the lawyers at CBS didn't want to go against the FCC chairman's wishes; they have other business that depend of what the FCC decides.

Because I’m not.

I never claimed the Trump administration had any direct part in the matter.

How about you looking up ‘anticipatory compliance’ so you might grasp the point I actually have made.
