Tablet for reading books

Featured Replies

Hi Gang.

Need some thoughts here.

Looking to buy a cheap tablet.

99.9% ebook reading and I have access to the Libby App with Australian Library card.

Thinking Xiaomi Redmi Pad 8.7 4gb + 64 gb??? Possibly B3,200 in shop.

Then a cheap B250-300 monthly plan with (say) d-tac?

Download Libby App, login & off I go?

Barking up the right tree?

Cheers🙃🙃

I read my books on my TV via an android box and fbreader. Much less strain on the eyes...

I use a 10" tablet only for reading books.

I've had two 10" CHUWI. Very good.

A couple months ago I wanted a new one and I checked all 10" tablets available for buying in Thailand on the Internet.

The XIAOMI Redmi seemed the one best for clear reading outside daytime and I bought one at their shop in Central Ubon.

Extremely satisfied with it and I recommend it.

Kindle 7" wins every time.

I agree with Kindle or anything that has ePaper/eInk screen.

I have one that has a fake ePaper... not quite the same, bought it because I thought TCL has figured out a way to fuse ePaper and OLED, but that's not really true - it's just a variable frequency display that can make it feel like matte ePaper but really isn't. Still, it hurts eyes noticeably less than iPad.

It's TCL NXTPaper. There's a review of it at ZDNet: https://www.zdnet.com/article/tcl-tab-10-nxtpaper-5g-review/

Got it from Banana shop in 10" form without 5G for about 10k baht, maybe a bit less. Can't remember.

If you are going to do that, then make sure that you obtain the 4G version. They are much the same price. Just a 100 baht difference. Cheapest direct from Xiaomi as they offer a minimum 10% discount on the 3300 baht price. You might even be able to apply another 300 baht discount from that.

Not necessarily a recommendation for the tablet, but just info in case you decide to go for it.

Agree 100%

If you want a stand alone E-reader, go the Kindle.

If you want a tablet you can read on, I have the Redmi pad you mentioned and it's fine.

I just download my books, put them onto Calibre and transfer to my tablet.

Cheers.

Definitely more versatile it having it's own Internet source.

Here's a useful overview of the tablet:

Have you tried/do you use the Reading Mode on that tablet?

No, I haven't.

I didn't even know it was there.

I will have a play with it.

Thanks for the tip.
