Home and Contents Insurance

Featured Replies

I'm looking for an insurance broker for our house and contents in Isaan.

AA Insurance don't seem to be too interested.

Any recommendations for the Kalasin area.

Thanks :)

Here in Surin province we're just about to pay this morning our h&c insurance with our BKK Bank branch (BKK Insurance Public Company). Have been with them since we built our house in 2016. 11.5M฿ cover, 20฿ annually. Never a problem.

Hi, you mean B20000 annually?

I'll have to consult with my b/f on the detail of the cover, as it's all in Thai. Will consult with him when he gets home from the farm later today (but he's barely literate in Thai so I may not have much to offer).

In the broad however it's a large 2-storey house and carport & gym which we built thru 2016/17 on 2 rai of land on the outskirts of Prasat. Here's a photo from 2 or 3 years ago.P1130217.jpeg

So, what I managed to get out of b/f is:

  • he has full chanote ownership with surveyed boundaries

  • he was a bit vague on insurance cover but thinks it covers fire & personal accidents & leaks but not floods [we spent a fortune on truckloads of 'soil' to build us up, as you do in this part of the world]. In sum, doesn't have quite the full cover that we would no doubt take for granted in The West

  • and usufruct for me is on our lengthy to-do list [not that at my age I worry about that much].

but not floods

Most home insurance policies apparently took out most of the flood cover, if they had it originally, after the major floods (2011 I think?). I know mine certainly did.

Ah, that may be the explanation.

(I arrived in Thailand on my first visit just after the 2011 floods. Cleaning up in both CM & BKK was more or less just finished.)

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a contents only insurance policy?

My two sons and a mate are uni students. They rent a house. They have lots of musical instruments (music students). I'd like to insure the contents.

I can only suggest going to a local broker and asking them for options.

I was a little surprised that the OP suggested no joy with AA Insure however you may struggle with contents only for the situation you mention.
