February 26Feb 26 In only one day, Tuesday, Myanmar’s military has carried out a fresh wave of airstrikes that killed at least 26 civilians and wounded 19 others in the country’s west and northwest, according to local media reports. The attacks highlight the escalating violence in a nation still reeling from years of conflict since the 2021 coup.In Arakan state, strikes on Yoengu village in Ponnagyun township left 17 people dead, including women and children, and injured 14 more. The village lies northeast of Sittwe, a city seized by the Arakan Army in March 2024. Witnesses said the toll could rise, with several victims in critical condition and homes destroyed. “We are trying to find out the names of the victims,” one resident told the Democratic Voice of Burma, adding that at least five houses were burned in the assault.A separate attack in Sagaing region claimed nine lives, among them two children. Local sources said paramotors dropped bombs on residents using a Starlink device to access the internet. Five others were wounded in the strike, which targeted Myinmu township. The violence underscores the deepening conflict between Myanmar’s ruling junta and ethnic armed groups. Since the February 2021 coup that ousted Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government, clashes have intensified across the country. Rights monitors estimate more than 6,000 people have been killed and nearly three million displaced in fighting over the past four years.Although Myanmar held elections in three phases between December 2025 and January 2026, the country remains gripped by instability. Emergency rule officially ended last July, but the military continues to wield power through force. The Arakan Army’s capture of Sittwe last year marked a significant setback for the junta, and the latest strikes appear aimed at regaining control in contested areas. For civilians, the cost is devastating. Families in Arakan and Sagaing now face the dual burden of mourning loved ones and surviving amid destroyed homes and shattered communities. With no sign of a ceasefire, the conflict threatens to drag on, leaving ordinary people caught in the crossfire of a war that shows little prospect of resolution.-2026-02-26 ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français ThaiVisa, it's also in French
