British Tourist Attacks Thai Officer, Gets Restrained

Featured Replies

A bit difficult to follow as the dog was barking in Thai. But here's the gist of it:

"Collar him! Drag him to the pound and chew up his passport! Bite the b@stard!"

Surrendered? He was being held back by the 7-11 staff. The cop was pi***ed off. Believe it or not, they're like normal human beings. They don't like being punched.

One of those female employees was sure brave to jump right in and help..

Even in the unlikely event the cop provoked the situation, you gotta be out of your tree to chin him. I can imagine the retribution back at the station would have been swift and without mercy, and not one to one!

Last year I seen it first hand in the foyer of my condo in Na Klua. A tall asian guy, maybe "Korean" went right off his head. probaly drugged up. The female office manager tried to intervene and he threw a heavy fist at her, luckily for her it missed. I told her to ring the cops, one arrived 20 minutes later, he was that young looking he could've been on work experience. The "Korean" guy punched him in the face and the young cop bled freely. Next thing the calvary arrived, all tooled up like a terrorist squad. The 4 cops tackled him, lifted him up and drove his head into the tiled floor. Then they picked him up and threw him down the stairs head first. He was then shackled in a crucifix position in the back of the cops pick up and the vehicle sped away. I never heard anymore about this but I'm sure he got a savage beating when they got him back into a police cell. This happened around 8 am in the morning, which was strange as most of these dramas usually happen later in the night or early morning.

There was no need for that.

As a former law enforcement officer....Yes, there was a need:

There is no mention if there were other cops there other than the one you see.

So I am on the cop's side of course but if he was alone and had already been assaulted by this moron, I would have done the same thing, detain / hold him using a controlled restraint move / any way whatsoever until his backup arrives.

For the technical term we used (and he used here), it's called a Lateral vascular neck restraint (LVNR).

Well done copper!!

Ever since they legalised weed it sent out the wrong message. The Magaluf crowd now holiday in Thailand because they think anything goes.

Very sad.

This would never have happened when I lived in thailand between 2000-2010 ..... what's happened to the place?

In addition to that, he should have his Passport revoked and be banned for ALL international travel.

Don't forget the 21 lashes and hung from a crane

If in USA he would be shot....

To be fair, we've all wanted to do that.

Ironically the residents in Magaluf have hit back hard at bad behviour from tourists - usually Brits there too.

Does anyone here know what started this?

The cops actions after he had him under control were laughable.

Done by a man who had lost face.

Sure the Brit was wrong but it looked like retaliation to me.

He did good though,din he?

Obviously Thailand needs you back as soon as possible.

It’s gone to pot since you left.

No. No it doesn't. The RTP are world class experts in the de-escalation of potentially violent situations. So much so, their first response is typically not to show up at all.

Fair point !

Oh please look at your own mental coping strategies before picking on this young man whose brain hasn't fully developed

Oh but we must urge the temptation to discuss your sick leave record at work ,well that's when you did hold down a job which was rare ,but absolutely atrocious sick leave record so please look at your own shortcomings without picking on this young man

Go away troll!

The cop was literally being chocked. The guy most likely intoxicated and who knows what else ... you expect the cop just to calm him down when he lets go, shake hands and walk off?

In America the guy would have been shot. Here the police guy had to restrain him incase he kicked off again.

You can see the Benidorm Brits sticking up for the guy here - this is the behaviour they would applaud.

Can only wish an end to marijuana laws, so the Benidorm lot (and mules) can go back to their Bendorms, Magaluf and Ibizas and trash those places instead.

Another "top quality" Western tourist, so highly desired by the regular posters on this website.

If he'd been Indian (read Indian sub-continent, case Pakis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans all look similar) / Chinese, OMG - you'd have seen all the negative comments.

I doubt it but am sure that he would sue the Officer/PD for assult and (on the basis of the little video evidence we've seen) win, irrespective of his earlier actions.

One difference, this is Thailand and not Kansas.

Hm, this kind of language sound familiar some how.

Sounds very political!

nobody is sticking up for the guy his behaviour has rightly been condemned by all , As should yours be for writing such rubbish,

This has nothing to do with marijuana or any of the laws pertaining to it
