The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) is investigating a TikTok video where a young man pretends to have a leg disability to expedite ticket purchase at the LRT-1 Monumento Station. The incident highlights concerns over misuse of the priority lane reserved for senior citizens, pregnant women, persons with disabilities (PWD), and passengers with children. The video, initially on TikTok, shows the individual limping to use the Priority Lane and has since been removed from the platform.

The video remains available on Threads, where it's captioned “People with this ability” with an emoji. An observer in the footage commented on the act, calling it impressive acting. This incident raised red flags with LRT-1 management, who have committed to a thorough review and investigation of the situation and its implications.

LRMC emphasized that such actions undermine the system meant to aid those truly in need. They reiterated that the priority lanes are designed to facilitate a smoother travel experience for passengers requiring extra assistance. The management issued a stern reminder that disabilities should not be trivialized as content for entertainment or personal advantage.

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), managing LRT-2, also condemned the behavior. They underscored the importance of respecting PWD privileges, designed to support a dignified commuting experience. LRTA stressed the need for public cooperation to maintain respect and inclusivity in public transportation services.

Looking forward, LRMC plans to enhance monitoring to prevent such incidents and emphasize public education about the vital role of priority lanes. Both LRMC and LRTA urge the public to exercise respect and responsibility to foster a culture of courtesy, reported Interaksyon.

When I was a child and I cried for no reason, my parents would say "I'll give you something to cry about".

Just wondering whether this guy should be given a reason to need to use that priority lane...

Just joking folks...
