The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is providing essential support to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) returning from the Middle East due to the ongoing geopolitical crisis. Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, spokesperson and head of the Disaster Response and Management Group, reported the arrival of several OFWs who have received coordinated assistance with agencies like the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The DSWD is ensuring proper and timely delivery of necessary aid, with psychosocial support being a primary service offered to address the emotional and psychological impact on the returnees. Upon arrival, social workers assess each individual to tailor necessary interventions such as stress debriefing, counseling, and interviews conducted by DSWD personnel. The Department is collaborating with the Department of Health for additional medical support where needed.

Temporary shelters are provided through DSWD’s centers for those needing accommodation while arranging travel home, although currently, none are utilizing these facilities. Financial aid via the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program is available, covering transportation and other urgent requirements. Dumlao emphasized the DSWD's role in augmenting psychosocial support and financial assistance, mentioning the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) which aids returnees in securing income.

The SLP assists in employment facilitation or starting microenterprises, providing job training, requirement processing, and seed capital for small business ventures. Nearly 300 repatriated OFWs have received support during arrival activities organized with DMW and OWWA, reported Manila Bulletin.
