Overstay caused by original flight cancellation due to war in Middle

Overstay caused by original flight cancellation due to war in Middle East

Can anyone confirm that if you show up at BKK to leave with evidence of a previous cancellation caused by the situation in the ME, then overstays will be waived?

I MIGHT be in that situation if Emirates cancels my flight on 1st April.

I entered Visa Exempt on 5th February for 60 days, therefore my Permission to Stay expires on 5th April so I COULD use an agent to extend it. I'd rather not incur that expense if possible overstays are being waived at present.

There are two ways to do it

You're here on a 60 day visa exempt entry so that means you can get one 30 day extension at the immigration office serving the area where you stay for 1900baht. There's no need to take the 30 day 'flight cancellation' extension because you can get the regular 30 day extension for the same price and it gives you the same time in country

OR

You could overstay, show up at the airport with proof your flight out was cancelled and when you stamp out the overstay fines would be waived

you're pretty far from needing to do either of them right now so I'd just wait it out and see what happens closer to your flight out

Thanks.

What's the difference between the 30 day 'flight cancellation' extension and the regular 30 day extensions anyway? I've never heard of the former but am familiar with the regular extension.

And yes, I agree that I'm "OK so far" - just thinking ahead is all.

Yes and Emirates is flying with the risk of a mid air turn around or late cancellation.

Don't expect them to cancel early.

Yesterday's flight from Dubai to Bangkok was perfectly in time (10 min ahead).

Evening flight BKK to DXB also in time.

the 30 day flight cancellation extension was rolled out Mar 2 (that's when the police order was signed) and gives people the ability to get a 30 day extension with proof their flight was cancelled. It can be gotten after you took the one 30 day extension (as some people max out their time here before their flights back)

There is a special form you fill out for that extension

One thing to note is IF you opt for the 30 day flight cancellation extension and you're on overstay you DO have to pay the 500baht a day overstay fine before you can apply for the 30 day extension at the immigration office. The overstay fines are only waived IF you show up at the airport to fly out.
