I heard about it around 2011. From grown men who played Dungeons and Dragons in a board game cafe.

They were just pursuing it as another nifty hobby, not for investment at all

Bad News for Trump, bad news for all retirees who are heavily invested in the Stock Market.

There - fixed it. thumbsup

Ya'll make the assumption that "all retirees" hold their investments in stock. Diversity is your friend. My hedges are keeping my portfolio stable compared to the general market and I'm moving upwards as the war heats up. I find it funny when those guys who brag about themselves being "Rich" compares to all of us lowly "Poor Cheap Charlies." I've always have said, "The winds of fate are fickle." By the time this is over, the "Rich" may be poor and the "Poor" may be rich.

That's life (that's life), that's what all the people say
You're ridin' high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said that's life (that's life), and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life), I tell you I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin' flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life), that's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothin' shakin' come this here July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball a-and die
My, my!

The progress Trump has made? LOL this is not the worst joke forum

I like a lot of what Trump is doing and trying to do, and I consider much of it progress.

I understand that you, as a leftist hate Trump, hate everything Trump is doing, and hate everyone that supports Trump. That you and leftist in general hate what he's doing, just proves he's making progress.

I do not want the same things for my country that you want for my country.

The civilised world uses the litre

  • United States: Gallons are commonly used for fuel and beverages.

  • Liberia: Gallons are used in various contexts, including fuel and food products.

  • Caribbean Nations: Many Caribbean countries use gallons for fuel and other products.
In contrast, most of the world uses liters as the standard measurement unit, particularly in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and South America.

I can remember a time when I was trying to convert the American emission standard of grains/cubic foot into the much easier milligrams / cubic metre.

It reminds me of the Churchill observation:"Americans usually get it right, after they have tried everything else".

Please detail where you consider Trump is making progress. In fattening his wallet, certainly. Pardoning felons, sure. Starving 11 million Cubans is a kudos up there with Stalin's Holodomor.

Continuing to hide the Epstein files, bravo.

From where I sit, his achievements include:

Raising the cost of living for every American, with an inflationary tariff war.

Alienating every ally America once had, with a combination of tariffs and insults. Why do you think his pleas for help are falling on deaf ears?

Adding $8 trillion to government debt. A stagnant job market.

Getting into a war with religious fanatics, with no exit ramp in sight. Said fanatics have shut the Strait of Hormuz indefinitely, choking off 20% of the world's oil supply.

The Chinese are probably ecstatic, the market for EV's can only increase.

Tell me where I am incorrect in the facts and opinions I post. Then post why you think Trump is making progress.

Americans have been using he metric system in high school chemistry for at least 60 years. People that can do arithmetic do not have much difficulty switching back and forth.

What I think is hilarious, is that we in the US can buy a gallon of gas for what Europeans pay for a liter.

EVENKEEL raised the issue of the stock market in relation to Trump's election chances. Unless institutions and foreigners are voting, I don't see how their share is relevant to the issue.

As for the 75% figure for one thing, there's this:

How We Calculated the True Tax Rates of the Wealthiest

For the article “Trove of Never-Before-Seen Records Reveal How the Wealthiest Avoid Income Tax,” ProPublica delved deep into the taxes and strategies of the 25 wealthiest people in America. The story’s main finding was that these 25 people saw their worth rise a collective $401 billion from 2014 to 2018 while paying a total of $13.6 billion in federal income taxes. That amounts to what we called a “true tax rate” of 3.4%.

https://www.propublica.org/article/how-we-calculated-the-true-tax-rates-of-the-wealthiest?utm_source=chatgpt.com

The wealthier you are, the more likely that most of your wealth derives not from income via salary & bonuses but rather from investments. And there are lots of ways to leverage those investments to pay yourself at a rate far lower than income tax would require. For instance, borrowing against assets.

There's also the step-up basis for investments. Which means that if an asset such as stocks or real estate passes on to an heir, shoul they sell it, the asset will only be taxed for the increase from the time they inherited it. Not the time it was purchased. I'm sure there's a fair reason why this is the case, but I haven't been bale to figure it out yet.

Very few billionaires and very few American corporations pay their fair share of taxes. A very clever CPA that I use told me that his wealthiest clients rarely ever pay taxes.

The system is totally rigged against the common man, and is set up to favor the very rich and Corporate America, and Trump is the biggest defender of that policy we've ever seen, despite his fake rhetoric about representing blue collar America. They are the ones who are getting decimated along with tens of thousands of farmers who are losing their generational farms due to his policies.

Recently there was a news investigation (I forget by whom) into the fortunes that were being amassed by the Trump family's business empire since he became President - and the opaque links between the President's dealings (as HOS), and the dealings of people like his sons and that slimy son-in-law who swans around the world on the US dime under the auspices of being a Presidential-envoy and US dealmaker, then adds private family business on the side of those trips. I mean, they don't even try to cover it up - pure mafiosa stuff, private family dealmaking hidden iin plain site at best.

The thing is, a big majority of stocks are owned by the wealthy top 10%. So, it may affect how they vote. I suppose indirectly it could have an effect because of the the top 10%'s share of consumer spending. So that could weaken the economy. Anyway, the stock market is very volatile. I think factors like the cost of gasoline are far more important to most Americans.

A lot of middle class people have 401K plans and pensions, both of which are highly dependent on the stock market.

I get angry thinking about it. They intentionally jacked-up the stock market with 401k - suddenly all of these people sent a portion of their money into the stock market each pay period, regardless if it was a good idea or not, buying companies that may or may not deserve it. Stocks went up, but it was because of everyone now buying in. Approaching Ponzi scheme territory.

What is your claim based on? I think you just made it up. What is the "share" billionaires should pay? Already, the top 1% pay over 50% of the income taxes in the US.

Corporate taxes (like tariffs) are just passed on to consumers, which makes them regressive.

I think it is hilarious that you howl about what the rich pay, while you hire a CPA minimize what you have to pay.

There are investment vehicles in every 401k plans that are not tied to market performance.

You seem to know nothing at all about the program.

AI Overview

The S&P 500 has experienced significant growth since the start of 2019, with a total return of approximately 193%, or roughly 16.6% per year (including reinvested dividends) as of early 2026

. The index has more than doubled in value from roughly 2,500 points at the start of 2019 to over 6,300+

How many stocks in the S&P made up the bulk of that increase?
