Using QR scan to pay

Featured Replies

Scanning can be slower than you'd expect because how long it takes the apps to get on the scan screen, to speed it up I've added a truemoneywallet pay and Bangkok Bank scan widget to my home page (android)

Strangely Kasikorn has no widget or shortcut available so I'm switching my daily spending to Bangkok Bank

That's the app,I have the app on the home screen and it's not quick enough, that's why BB and TMW have widgets to speed things up. Kasikorn app circ 10 seconds, BB widget 2 seconds

Can BKK Bank widget be used for 7-11? Don't want to sign up for Truemoney wallet as it wants you to upload copy of passport in the registration process..

Own nothing, and be owned by nothing. It really does simplify life.
I no longer need to concern myself about having small cash for the fresh markets. Almost every vendor now accepts a scan, in fresh markets as well as on the street at food stalls. At the same time, I no longer need to even carry credit cards, as I can scan big-dollar items just as easily as a kilo of mangosteens!
As for speed... Not an issue for me. If it takes 5 seconds or even a whole minute to pay makes no difference. I'm just never in that much of a hurry!

How they would know anything about my life because I pay with QR code at Big C?

If you touch & hold the K+ app icon, a menu will pop up that includes a "Scan" option. Clicking on that, the K-Plus app will go straight to scan.

Well being retired I’m in the slow lane, so I have plenty of eight seconds to spare during the day.

A kilo of mangosteens is a big dollar item nowadays...you couldn't give them away almost in the South 25 years ago..!

This Option: Just 'hold' the Kasikorn App button for a second - it auto opens a menu, 'scan' is the first option.

It's very quick - Works for K-Bank and SCB.

Not sure about a 'Widget' for TrueMoneyWallet on iPhone (for 7-11 payments).

Also not sure if BKK Bank has a 'fast track' Widget for Payments using its App.

But realistically - its not as if I get a bill without notice and have 2 seconds to react and pay.

We know the bill is coming - its easy enough to get any payment app 'at the ready' to pay.

The people who will delay with digital payments, are the very same characters who wont take their wallet out of their pockets until presented with a bill - i.e. - slow people are slow everywhere - the same people get to their front door, then take their keys out etc....

The 'double tap' RFID option (like ApplePay / GoogleWallet instead of Scanning a QR code) would be good to have here - is just very convenient and would work very well for public transport (BTS / MRT etc).

Shouldn't bother you - you'll be hiding away on a desert island avoiding whatever virus you are refusing to get vaccinated against.

Well it does bother me and anyone with an ounce of common sense should be bothered about having to live in a digital dystopian panopticon too.

Unlike some I didn't hide away from the last 'virus' and refused the propaganda and coercion to get the 'vaccine'.

It was and still is..it's the 'fools' creating the bloatware apps in cahoots with phone manufacturers built in redundancy simply by not offering updates..sorry (fool) you must buy a new phone and contribute to the mountain of e-waste to pay for your Starbucks 🤑

It’s truly impressive how every conversation you enter speed-runs straight into “digital dystopian panopticon”, “the last virus”, and mysterious quotation marks, like we’re all trapped in a rejected Orwell fanfic.

Someone could post a recipe for burger-bun and you'd manage to find a way to connect it to 'technocratic bio-surveillance state conditions obedience'....

Its as if you consider a supermarket asking for Clubcard is the opening chapter of totalitarianism.

And the “I refused the propaganda” line lands astonishingly someone proudly announcing they alone escaped the Matrix because they watched a YouTube video by bloke called RedPheonix.

It really is quite amusing how you somehow manage to turn so many topics into anti-authoritarian fever monologue where Orwell, the WEF, 5G, QR codes and “pure blood” all get tossed into the same soup of self-congratulatory Grade A1 Paranoia... Comedy gold.... Laugh at, not with... Utter saddo.

Hey - but the potential upside is still all yours - keep hoarding those coins and one day the metal value might actually overtake the face value, then you’ll really be winning...

…although if that takes too long, you can still stand there in the Jomtien 7-11 queue with a smug little grin, comforted by the fact the government has absolutely no idea about your breath mints and size 38 rubber johnny purchase....

Imagine the panic in the command centre....
"Sir, we’ve lost him again"...
"How ?? !!!"...
"He paid cash for Mentos and a pack of welly's"...

"CCTV just spotted him on beach road - wearing a gold necklace"....

"OK - eyes out for suspiciously tall females"...

Oh you genuinely believe your own nonsense, don’t you ???.... I really underestimated previous comments - this is real certified fruit-cake city stuff....

  • In Tops Supermakert do you pay for everything in exact coins while nervously scanning the ceiling for CCTV thinking Jason Bourne would do the same ?

  • Do you whisper your Maccie D's order so “they” can’t collect voiceprints through the self-service kiosk?

  • Do put your phone in a tin at night, so MI5 have no idea how many of conspiracy podcasts and dwarf porn you consumed before bed?

  • Do you avoid smart TVs because they’re “always listening”, then spend six straight hours ranting publicly on YouTube under the name FreedomWolf69 ?

  • Do you walk around with airplane mode permanently on thinking you’ve hiding ?

  • Do you think the lady at immigration is secretly updating your citizen obedience score because you've visited a naughty massage twice in the past month ?

  • Do you use cash exclusively because you’re “off grid” (forget about the twelve different CCTV cameras between the ATM and the Pink Pussy Cat - don't worry, they won't ID you - cap and sunglasses).

  • Do you duck every time you see a traffic camera so the 'man' can't ID you driving to Big-C for anti-fungal cream ?

  • Do you wear sunglasses indoors because facial recognition might expose your movements between the solo-meals and erectile dysfunction aisle ?

  • Do you panic when someone tags you in a photo because the deep state might finally discover you had ribs and three pints in Pattaya on a Tuesday ? - No... You're off grid - no online accounts except here, right ?

  • Do you think QR menus are part of a coordinated authoritarian takeover instead of restaurants just not wanting to print laminated menus every five minutes ?

The best part of all this boroax is the staggering self-importance of the people convinced they’re personally being targeted... mentally dropping lines in their own head: “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t following you…” or better still... “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist”...

... this gets better... "Son, you can't handle the truth..... "....

Governments can barely organise a functioning pothole repair - probably because they're spending all their time masterminding a global operation focused specifically on tracking your movements between Jomtien 7-11 and the ointment section in Boots.....

... Go on, quote something about "blue and red pills" !!!!.... bet you're so confused cos you take the blue pills too !!!

Yes, but bots and AI agents are now able to do the dirty job for them based on all the data that is increasingly collected.

There should be a middle ground between constant paranoia and blind trust/obedience to the system, at least for people who care about individual freedom. Rather being aware of how and what you feed the beast.

When it comes to making digital payments, the Contactless system, which has really caught on in the UK as a result of the pandemic, beats hands down QR scanning as has been inflicted on us by the Thai banking sector IMHO. No need for any faffing around with your phone in order to aim an e-pot shot at some QR code. Instead, all you need to do in order to make a payment is to hold your bank card against a reader for barely a second until you hear a beep.

But, sadly, there are, I think, 2 reasons why Contactless hasn't caught on in Thailand in the way that it has in the UK:-

(1) The maximum limit for a Contactless payment at ฿1,500 is only about one-third of the UK limit (£100), and

(2) Thai banks have been given carte blanche by their useless regulators in the Bank of Thailand to charge whatever fees they like for the use of their bank cards. With the possible exception of high-end banks such as Coutts, UK banks don't levy any fees for the use of their cards.

Scoff as much as you like, I'll keep using cash exclusively, not uploading my personal life to Google/Apple/Amazon servers ,haven't eaten a Mcdonald's for more than 20 years, do not have a smart TV or Alexa listening 24/7, no surveillance or kill switch in my car either.

I'm well aware that I'm not "off grid" there are CCTV everywhere yes that's kinda the problem !

A mobile phone in airplane mode is not much use if you (not I) want to receive phone calls while at the naughty massage parlour.

Its not about them tracking me at Jomtien immigration , the 7/11 or naughty massage parlour its about them tracking everyone all the time including you..but you don't care as you have 'nothing to hide' so don't care about anyone else's privacy instead try to ridicule as a

"fruit cake conspiracy theorist" anyone pointing out what is actually provably happening.

You may think its safe and convenient I think it's the very slippery slope to a

dangerous digital dystopia.

Now bow down to your new god....brought to you by WEF and Co.

@Yumthai you hit the nail squarely on the head.

the more data you give them the easier it is to build up a complete profile for monitoring, surveillance and ultimately total compliance.

Ohh and to get back on Topic, when you scan those QR codes you have no idea

where the payments actually go or if they link to malware etc.

The rise in app- and phone-based parking payment has opened a new frontier for fraudsters: quishing – so called because they are phishing attacks that start with a QR code

Another thing where Bangkok Bank beats Kasikorn is BB has a quick pay option where a pin isn't required, BB definitely take speed seriously, Kasikorn in the slow lane

The crushing number of people simulnateously using Kbank app compared to BB one could be a simple explanation to Kbank app latency.
