What Music Would You Like Played At Your Funeral?

Featured Replies

At my funeral I would like to have;

Always look on the bright side of life Monty Pyton

End of the world as we know it REM

If there were going to be a lot of people I didn't like at my cremation I would like to have the full version of 'The End' by The Doors played.

Black - Wonderful Life

Lou Reed - Perfect Day

Guns'n'Roses - November Rain

And maybe a little bit of Stones - Paint it Black, Gimme Shelter, that sort of thing.

Welcome to the machine..Pink Floyd..

and or The end..The Doors..

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.

Where have you been? its alright we know where youve been.

Youve been in the pipeline, filling in time, provided with toys and

scouting for boys.

You bought a guitar to punish your ma,

And you didnt like school, and you know youre nobodys fool,

So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.

What did you dream? its alright we told you what to dream.

You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar,

He always ate in the steak bar. he loved to drive in his jaguar.

So welcome to the machine.

going up:

Dire Straits Walk Of Life

going down:

Living in a Box : Living in a Box

AC/DC - Have a drink on me (for the wake)

David Grey - Sail away

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters

tutsi demands solemn music for the most solemn of all occasions...like the second movement from one of Bach's violin concertos, the one that sounds like a dirge. Those that are familiar with Bach's violin music knows which one I mean...if anything would precipitate torrents of tears and howls of grief that piece should...good for making a nice exit... :o

Time in a bottle - Jim Croce (memories from my dad)

At least someone here with a good taste in music. :D

I wouldn't mind Palestrina's Lamentations of Jeremiah, Manuel Cardoso's Requiem, Dvorak's or Faure's Requim.

But then - i'll be dead and won't care much either way.

We have the same taste in music. For me, it would probably be Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

Maybe this Floyd classic (from The Wall) would be more appropriate.

"Goodbye Cruel World"

Goodbye cruel world

I'm leaving you today

Goodbye

Goodbye

Goodbye

Goodbye all you people

There's nothing you can say

To make me change

My mind

Goodbye.

I have the complete Bach violin concerti and I just don't know which one you mean, can you remember which one?

(Dirge is in the ear of the behoolder!?!)

On the classical music choices however, Purcell's Funeral Music for Queen Mary is a cracker!

Yeah i know, just didnt wanna be excluded from the thread... :D

Surely Wolfie would have "people are strange" by Echo and the Bunnymen (orig. the doors) as in the movie about young vampires, lost boys.

Burning Bridges... Mike Curb Congregation

Friends all tried to warn me

But I held my head up high

All the time they warned me

But I only passed them by

They all tried to tell me

But I guess I didn't care

I turned my back and

Left them standing there

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me

All the lonely feelings and the burning memories

Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door

Burning bridges lost forevermore

Joey tried to help me find a job

A while ago

When I finally got it I didn't want to go

The party Mary gave for me

When I just walked away

Now there's nothing left for me to say

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me

All the lonely feelings and the burning memories

Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door

Burning bridges lost forevermore

Years have passed and I keep thinking

What a fool I've been

I look back into the past and

Think of way back then

I know that I lost everything I thought that I could win

I guess I should have listened to my friends

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me

All the lonely feelings and the burning memories

Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door

Burning bridges lost forevermore

Burning bridges lost forevermore

afaik there are only 3 concerti (other than the Brandenburgs); the double concerto in E for two violins of which the piece I refer to is not, and two others. The movement I'm thinking of is quite funereal...there is a passage in the middle that contrasts with the rest of the piece in that it conveys an aspect of peace and sweetness as if one had already entered the pearly gates...then back to the dirge. The following movement is very lively; a bit of relief after dealing with mortality...

For life is quite absurd

And death's the final word.

You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Forget about your sin.

Give the audience a grin.

Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.

So,...

Always look on the bright side of death,

[whistle]

Just before you draw your terminal breath.

[whistle]

Life's a piece of shit,

When you look at it.

Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true.

You'll see it's all a show.

Keep 'em laughing as you go.

Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And...

Always look on the bright side of life.

Always look on the right side of life.

[whistle]

The Dead March from Saul by Handel. I'd also have a glass-sided coach containing my coffin pulled by 4 black horses with black cockades and driver and sideman with morning coats and black top hats.

Burning Bridges... Mike Curb Congregation

Theme tune for Kelly's Heroes (fun old movie)

There are places I'll remember

All my life, though some have changed

Some forever, not for better

Some have gone and some remain

All these places had their moments

With lovers and friends, I still can recall

Some are dead and some are living

In my life, I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers

There is no one compares with you

And these memories lose their meaning

When I think of love as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection

For people and things that went before

I know I'll often stop and think about them

In my life, I'll love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection

For people and things that went before

I know I'll often stop and think about them

In my life, I'll love you more
