Paul Scholes aside, the only famous redhead worth his place was former Liverpool supersub David Fairclough.

What is it about redheaded footballers? Sunderland have had plenty of crap players over the years, but the worst have often been redheads.

Any stories or names to add to the Hall of Carrot Top Shame???

Can't remember if Alan Rough was ginger, but as he was scottish it is likely. One thing for sure he was CRAP :o

How about Gordon Strachan, Stuart McCall and Carlos Valderamma, they all had ginger tendencies, and weren't bad players either.

No, they aren't/weren't true redheads. They all had highlights at a young age. They won't admit it, but they were simply making what they thought were bold fashion statements at the time.

Here's a gem ... the legendary Carlo Satori.

Born 10th February 1948, Italy. Italian Redheads are not exactly a dime a dozen - so hats off to Manchester United’s Carlo, who made 26 appearances for The Red Devils between 1968 and 1971. Now a professional knife-sharpener in Rochdale. But you probably knew that already.

One of the worst gingers at Sunderland was Ian Wallace, the 5'0" Scottish centre forward

How did they ever let him play international football????? He scored his one international goal in the meeting with Bulgaria in February 1978, which featured his Coventry team-mate Jim Blyth in goal. Another great Scottish keeper who kept Alan Rough on his toes!!

Dare I mention Lee Hughes. Just been released from prison and about to play for Oldham. Interesting to see what kind of reaction the "Ginger Ninja" is going to get.

Dave Kitson DEFINITLEY has a carrot on his head and I think he is cursed, what bad luck he has had in the first season in the EPL (Injured in his first game) , then lasted 30 seconds in his first appearance this year...cursed...I think so :D

CARROT

Here's one who we like to try and forget, for scoring against our Turnip inspired side back in 1993.

Surely, this guy has to be the most ufortunate ginger in football. A cross between a carott and Jesus :D . Mind you, he's now got David Beckham to help him with his fashion sense, so there may be an improvement :o

He was Scottish, he was extremely crap but he wasn't ginger. He held the honor of having the worst ever bubble perm during the late 70's. :D

Famous Scottish carrot tops include, Gordon Strachan, Alex Mcleish, Richard Gough and Colin Hendry before he dyed it 'Bet Lynch' peroxide blond.

Can't beleive that no one has mentioned Alan Ball. He was most definately ginger, he wore white boots in the 70's, he had a squeaky voice, his managemet career wasn't particularly consistent, but he had a couple of good seasons with Portsmouth and Exeter City and he was a fantastic player as well as a a great bloke. Such a shame that the football world lost this particular "ginger diamond" so early.
