Driving Licence For The Visually/physically Impaired

Recommended Posts

I assume this is a trick question, most of the drivers I see only drive with one arm the other is holding the mobile phone, as for being blind in one eye what would it matter as long as they can see through the dark tint, as for restricted to 60 kph your joking, 10 year old kids do more than that on there motor bikes. :o

No joke.

With one eye, for example, you cannot pass the peripheral vision test.

As I understand further the applicants are taken to a seperate room for assesment.

If they get a licence to drive they are retricted to 60 kph. If they stick to that speed and to any other restrictions placed on them or not, I do not know.

Yeah, I see plenty of kids on bikes etc., they drive as if mentally / visually impaired as they never seem to see other vehicles coming :o

The only visual test I did for a licence is a colour blindness test.....very simple procedure. You may not even have to take that ( depending on the person processing the application )

As for this 60 km/ph story...I wouldn't take that too seriously....the only way to enforce thatis by restricting the car engine

Like another TVisa poster in northern Thailand, I only have sight in one eye, and I got my 5 year unrestricted license this week. Of course, visual field is a concern, so when the folks at the driver license bureau realize you can't see normally, they require you to take a very special visual field test. It is only done at a few hospitals that are equipped with a special testing room and a trained examiner, and the certification is done by an eye surgeon who interprets the test results.

I have never been advised of any speed limit, and I still ride at an indicated 140 kph on my bike frequently. 60 kph would be dangerously slow on some roads. I passed the other tests at the DL bureau, for color, depth perception, etc. Both my DL's contain words in Thai that say I've been approved to drive although I can't see with both eyes.
