What Are The Worst Grounds That You Have Visited?

Got to be Halifax. Went there years ago with Forest and it's still etched on my brain. The crowd was 4012. Forest had 1,200 tickets but 3 sides of the ground which says something about how big the stands were. I was in the romantically named Bus Garage End. At one end was a fairly big terrace but it had no crush barriers so it held only 2 rows of spectators stood at the top. There was a speedway track round the pitch which meant everything was caked in mud for good measure.

Interesting before the match as well. I was in the pub with a couple of mates. We were leaning on the jukebox (big old fashioned floor standing one) when a couple of guys came over and politely asked us to move. I thought 'fair enough, they want to put some sounds on' but no, one of them opened up his coat, produced a crowbar and proceded to rifle the machine and take all the coins. This is a packed out pub!

Also worthy of mention is Mansfield (I'm from there). They have an old wooden stand on one side which was closed by the authorities as it was a fire hazard. A few weeks later they played Chelsea in the league cup and you've guessed it - they reopened it and put the Chelsea fans in there.....

I was at the same game Dave, Hlaifax Forest. That old racecourse stand at Mansfield was a classic. Do you remember the price of the match program ? At that time a match program was about 60p :D For thatgame Halifax were charging a quid :o

after looking at the grounds mentioned, i agree halifax and old wigans ground total dumps, went those 2 grounds with my stockport county mates.

Whats Stockport's ground like these days? I remeber back in the mid 80's that it was closed for some reason or another. Can't remember why though.

countys ground is not a bad little ground compared with halifax's ground.cannot remember countys ground being closed as i had moved to australia.

Ninian Park an awful ground- agree re the Old Ayresome Park as well. Used to live near Crewe so finding the ground no problem but see the confusion re the floodlights. Always hated going to Selhurst Park as well, the results never helped either.

Bloomfield Rd before the renovation- now looks kind of nice.

Boundary Park ,Oldham-almost as cold as the Britannia :o

But not as expensive :D welcome to the footy forum by the way :D nice to see a Joke...err... Stoke City fan on the site :o

Last time I went to the Britannia was against Oldham by coincidence & was a boring 0 - 0 stalemate. The town was ok for a beer but the p1ssing about queing up at that caravan outside the ground for a over priced ticket was annoying.

Notts County, with a brick wall behind one of the goals (and a freezing cold, open, wet away end - though, to be fair, I think it was mostly like that for the home support too).

Agreed.

I went there to watch the Blues back in the 80s. Every time the ball missed the goal, the City fans would do a rendition of Pink Floyds "Another Brick in the Wall",replacing the word 'in' with 'off' :o

They replaced the 3 sides for sure with brand new mechano set stands from Ikea but think they kept the brick wall. If you saw the windows above I think Notts were knocking them out for match days as executive boxes for the prawn sandwich brigade :D:D
