I must admit I was expecting an origami swan or similar but was quite pleasantly surprised. Great stuff. :o

Being from Chownah I was expeciting just a website with a single piece of paper and yes I was pleasantly surprised too. Agree - great stuff.

Most excellent! DId you check out the guys large papercut stuff? Unreal!

Actually I found it quite impressive and I'm normally a sarcastic cynical b@stard.

:o

^

I found it to be rather lame, and certainly beneath Chownah's normal standard.

Buck up farmer boy!

Amazing...

But as an ecologist..What a waste of paper!!!!!!

Just joking... :o

Ok I go...

I agree. Er, with the amazing bit! As an artist I am always looking for different ideas and inspiration - this has certainly given me lots of food for thought...

I currently have 10 of my paintings displayed in a gallery in Liverpool and this has made me think that maybe I should replace them with something a bit different!

^ Pics, Tiggy? What's your medium and genre? Hiding stuff from your fellow Bedlamites. Sniff.

Ya, I used to love making paper cut-outs -- you know, fold a big paper 20 times and then unfold it to get a string of dancing girls or dogs or Santas or a caricature of someone for their B-day. Good for kids, too.

Pics? I had not considered such a thing! Leave it with me and I'll get back to you...

Heck tigs, you should always record your work in some way,esp if you intend to sell. Its also a good idea to set up an online gallery, even if just for personal record. Its good to see what you have done and why, and how your work has developed. Recording exhibitions great too, esp on an opening night. If you have your work online, its also easier for sale purposes and commissions. Get your stuff out there!

As for the paper art..amazing! Would love to see one of his full scale exhibitions. Really admire what hes doing.

Thanks for the support eek, I'll certainly consider doing something.

When I was painting FT, I always took photos of each canvas before the exhibition. That's your portfolio, Tigs.

Yes I should at least take photos of them. I have a dood digital camera that would be perfect for the purpose. You guys have got me thinking...

Yep! Check the lighting -- no flash -- mount flat against the wall, no glass. Make them eye-level so there isn't a slant. I did most of my work on stretched canvas, but I photographed before frames. Nowadays, it's easier as you can just crop the picture. That's also where you'll see if the photo was taken at even a slight angle. Then print them out and put in a beautiful portfolio album...

And maybe post them on tv? To get the opinion of my fellow posters...

ps maybe just post them on Bedlam for opinions I really respect!

Tigs if your not so website creating savvy, there are so many options too for hosting your work online. Online galleries which are really easy to set up and free for example. Just batch load your photos with any description you want to give.

As JG mentioned, def at least take photos, it is indeed your portfolio.

(Also, again as JG mentioned you can crop the pics so they are neat. If you know any photoshop you can also fix the light/shade and colours balance too.)

Suegha,

You seem to be a hands on sort of guy....so......instead of taking photos of your works why not make oil paintings of them instead and keep these for your portfolio....it will be really really unique......you usually don't have to crop an oil painting but it can be done just as easily as cropping a photo!!!!

Every now and then I think "nah Chownah isn't really a few slices short of a picnic" and then you post something like the above and I realise how mistaken I was

That's just what I was thinking. Much of my work is oils, although I do housepaints on plywood for some of my larger pieces and occasionally water colours. i do experiment with all sorts of methods and techniques but re-painting everything in oils could be an interesting experiment!

I do housepaints on walls - most of my work recently has been indoor themes with the occasional ceiling. I am thinking that I will branch out to doing some ouside views after the local rains finish but before the hot season starts.

I used to do a lot of Tattoo flash art which I sold to tattoo shops - you would be surprised the number of tattoo artists that can't draw for quids. In the days of being an cadet engineer I made more money on the weekend doing up sheets of flash than my actual salary.

I still love doing drawings with multiple grades of graphite or charcoal pencils but if I don't keep up regular practice I lose the technical skills required to do the actual rendering.

Yeah, house paints on walls and ceilings can be quite minimilistic! :o

After John Lennon died I did a 'strawberry fields forever' directly onto the wallpaper in my bedroom. It was a large watercolour with a huge strawberry field, a gloriously sunny day with a clear azure sky. Hovering in the sky was a large hawk waiting to pounce on the booty down below, of course never acheiving it's goal as it was forever frozen by the confines of the painting. I loved it. Of course I moved out and on my return saw that the room had been redecorated and alas...

Sounds really interesting. I shared a house with a number of "odd but interesting characters" over the years. One painted the whole of one of his bedroom walls with an enormous silhouette of Che Guevara in black on a red background. It was done with spirit based enamel paint and to cover it up I ended up having to wallpaper the whole room with lining paper and then run a light plaster over it before putting on the normal water based paint.

I've got an idea for your outside view work.....why not paint the entire house so it looks just like a house!!!!! Wild!!! I'm sure people will drive buy and think, "that looks just like a house over there"!......and what is even better....is....the fact....that.....they will be right!!!! It WILL be just like a house over there!!!!

A strawberry hawk? Sounds like some kind of sexual pervert......like some poem might comment about the lurid gawk of a strawberry hawk....or something like that.....look...I'm a rice farmer...OK?
