Registering Car Own Name

Does any one know the procedure for registering a car in own name but that involves plate changes from one province to another. i.e. taking a car from Bangkok to Sakeo. Or Buriram to Sakeo etc. I know the car has to be registered where you live and if the plate is from the same province it is fairly straight forward at the local Department of Land Transport.

It is the process of deregistering it in one and re-registering it in another Province I am interested in.I can get Thai family to help but like when I got my Thai license having a grasp of what was needed made things very easy. They just had to act as translators.

I will have all the other requirements; Non immigrant O Visa, letter from embassy with proof of address, Thai driving license etc.

Before anyone asks why go to the trouble of doing this and not just finding a car where I live... is that big car dealers for me are cheaper and the selection is better in other provinces.

Any input from anyone would very much be appreciated. Thanks.

got that t-shirt ,

vehicle has to be physically inspected at the office in your province ,

allow two trips minimum ..................................

How much for the T shirt? :o So I need not do anything in the other province only where I live?

2 visits? Who inspects it the Department of land transport? Do they just look at it or is it a mechanical inspection?

Thanks for the input Mid! appreciated

It's a mechanical and safety check plus a serial number check of the engine and chassis. My vehicle was four years old. There could possibly be a difference for a newer vehicle. ???

My car was bought a year ago in Korat, and last week I renewed the registration in Chiang Mai. The man behind the counter just took the 2896 baht, wrote/stamped the renewal in my book and gave me the disc for the windscreen.

He didn't want to change either the plates or the address. The whole thing took barely 10 minutes.
