September 15, 200718 yr Just a quick one (hopefully). I'm based in Phuket and use the CAT CDMA internet connection. I'm coming to Samui for a week in November and need to access the internet for work etc. I've searched the forum and it seems to work in KPG - but will it work in Samui? Thanks in advance... Jon
September 15, 200718 yr Yeah, i think so....but for be shure and have actual infos read this: for more infos u can try to call the CAT-Shop in Samui at 077 - 421130, the mainoffice is in the same building as the postoffice in nathon, or the CAT-Shop in Suratthani at 077 - 283050 - 9. Another TIP, khun Tanawat Thipchit from the Samui IT Center in Chaweng he speaks english/thai and he also sell hardware for CDMA, he told me about that the new network on samui will go up to 1Mbit speed....ask him for more. September 16, 200718 yr Author Thanks for the replies, it sounds pretty hopeful but I'll give them a call to make sure...
September 16, 200718 yr Is this a new upgrade? I've had a CATCDMA modem for around six months or so, only 230kbs and am unable watch video clips without the stuttering, or send so much as a measly jpeg.
September 18, 200718 yr I'm on Phuket also. Anyone know if this's likely to apply here? Yes CAT does offer 3G CDMA service on Phuket as well... If you want higher speeds you will have to get new hardware (Sierra 580 Aircard) which is pricey at 13,000 baht, but gets you about 400kbps on avg download. Note that there are other drawbacks besides price: it only has a 2km range as opposed to 5km for the slower modems, and you need an appropriate PCI slot which some laptops don't have. Also, upload speeds are still pretty bad at about 50kbps on average. Hope that helps.
