Flash Flooding In Chiang Rai--hilltribes Affected

Featured Replies

excerpt from the Bangkok Post

In Chiang Rai, flash floods ravaged foothill communities, including a hilltribe village in Muang district. Seven houses were destroyed by water run-off, while three buffaloes were killed by thunderbolts.

Thats not much info to go by, anyone there know how badly they were hit? or where?

I'm not certain either but I heard third hand that the dead buffaloes may have been near Kwae Wua Dam, a village past Ruammit. Flash floods and heavy rains aren't an uncommon problem, however, and I assume the above story isn't an isolated event. Many villages have been affected in many areas. For example, earlier in the rainy season storms had knocked over houses, washed out crops in Ahdu Mai village (a several kilometers before Huay Mae Sai WF), fish ponds were destroyed in Huay Chompoo village (near Huay Khom) two name a couple.
