Freind's Getting Married

Recommended Posts

I've got farang 2 friends who've decided (last minute) that they want to get married in Thailand. I asked about their situation at the end of this thread.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...p;#entry1542027

Providing they turn up in Phuket with all the relevant paper work...what would be the procedure???

Do they go to an Amphur, present documents, sign a bit of paper then that's it?

How do these tourists get their "dream wedding on the beach" ???

Any advice of even a link (PM me) to a company offering something like that will be much appreciated...(By the bride-to-be...not too sure about the groom!!! :o )

Many thanks

Laguna Phuket is Asia's premier wedding and honeymoon destination for quality-conscious couples wishing to tie the knot in unique and pampered style. Marriage for foreigners in Thailand should be performed according to Thai Law. Procedure and requirements are as follows:

  • Appear in person with your passports at your Embassy in Thailand to complete declarations attesting that you are single and free to marry in accordance with Thai Law (blank forms are available at the Embassy).
    • Take the completed declaration to a reputable translation office to have the contents of the declaration translated into Thai.
    • The documents together with translation and copies of passports have to be taken to the Legalization Division of Consular Affairs Department (address: 123 Chaengwattana Road, Laksi, Bangkok 10210 Tel: (66-2) 575-1056-60 Fax: 575-1054 E-mail: [email protected] ) where the Consular Official's signature will be authenticated. This normally takes 2 days. The documents and translation are then ready for submission to the District Registrar who will register the marriage and issue the marriage certificate in Thai.

  • In cases where the woman is a widow or a divorcee, the dissolution of the former marriage must have taken place at least 310 days before the next marriage
    • Doctor's pregnancy test is accepted if the time between the former marriage and the next marriage is less than 310 days; but this rule shall not apply if;
    • a child has been born during such period, or
    • the divorced couple remarry, or
    • there is an order of the Court allowing the woman to marry.

  • All documents must be translated into Thai before submission to the District Registrar.
  • The documents together with translation must be submitted to the District registrar at least one day prior to the marriage registration day.
  • For more information, please log in the web site of Provincial Administration Department.

We used Thailand-Wedding.com (also known as Phuket-Discovery.com). They're based in Phuket, but can do weddings anywhere in Thailand.

They did absolutely everything for us - all we did was select the venue for the ceremony. They took care of booking rooms for family and friends, catering the dinner, booking musicians, dancers, a photographer and videographer, all of the decorations and wedding costumes, as well as all of the arrangements for the temple and monks (for the Buddhist ceremony). We were very happy with their service and pricing.

They seemed to be very busy when we were dealing with them, so I don't know if they'll be able to do a "last minute" wedding, but it's worth a try.

I know of an Aussie couple getting married at the Kata Thani Hotel in Kata Noi in a couple of months.

The hotel even has a dedicated page on their web site for people having weddings there. Probably cheaper than hotels in the Laguna area.
