Increased Security At Jungceylon

Featured Replies

Anyone else noticed how security has been dramatically beefed up recently - only one usable entrance each end, metal detectors, bag searches, loads more security staff etc? It could just be part of the greater scheme of things as the facility develops, but then again...

We're approaching high season and image is very important, even if it is all just paying lip service to a perceived threat or risk.

Also noticed that motorbikes are sometimes not allowed to park in the underground garage.

This is very inconvenient, as the outdoor motorbike parking area is now a construction site for some sort of new building. There's effectively nowhere to park a motorbike at Jungceylon.

We asked a security guard why motorbikes were not allowed in the garage a couple of days ago, and he told us that the owner was afraid of a bomb attack. A couple of weeks ago, they had a guard posted at the motorbike entrance who would randomly search under the seat of motorbikes entering the garage, which seemed like a good idea. This has now stopped, and as of a couple of days ago, motorbikes are flat-out not permitted inside. Don't know if this has changed, as we haven't been there in a couple of days.

Seems to me, someone bent on destruction could do a lot more damage by using a car or SUV (which are constantly streaming into the garage) as opposed to a motorbike.

Yeah the bike parking is strange.. Its possible one day, not the next, then ok again, seemingly very randomly.. Plus the eastern (baanzaan) side entrance which also had a bike parking section is now closed so it makes it very trial and error as to where to go.

Shame as everything else is shaping up very well in there.

regarding the motorbikes, perhaps they are just trying to see what works well for them?

as for the security checks, it appears that they are just trying to keep up with the rest of the country....most places in bkk have security checks now dont they?

Security in Central today afternoon seemed quite hectic as well, a lot of guys in plain clothes but with their red walkie talkies open in sight. I rather thought they have some bigwig guy shopping there semi-anonymously or that they are readying up for some inspection visits from BKK.

for those of us that have cars/vans etc that have ahigher roof than the 2 m bar there is now NOWHERE to park at all as the outside car park is now under development.

You have to dump it somewhere out on the dirt road at the back and dodge the traffic to the entrance, not that fun with a small baby and a pram
