Do They Keep Track Of Points?

Featured Replies

I got a couple of tickets on my bike recently. Couldn't bribe my way out of them. One was legit, the other probably not.

Anyway, I was wondering if they keep track of tickets and if it could be a problem someday. A friend of mine just laughed when I asked him, but I'm not so sure.

Anybody know about this? Do the different police stations communicate on this stuff?

BTW, as I understood it from the cop, it's not legal for a bike to get into the right lane to make a u-turn until you pass the blue u-turn sign (in BKK anyway). And the BIB were stationed just before it. I only protested mildly as I was in a hurry, but now I wonder if I should have gone to the police station to fight it.

Yes they told me the same. But that was 10 years ago. I'm not sure how the rules are today.

AFAIK different police branches are akin to private armies, they don't share information on something as trivial as speeding tickets etc.

I was stopped for doing 160kph on the way to Hua Hin a few weeks ago, and it was the first time I recieved a ticket. 200 baht :o

I asked the copper about points and he said they dont give points.

I dont think you have anything to worry about. I have been stopped many times and that was the first time I had to get out of the car and sign some paper work.

the only time you have to worry about points getting subtracted is when they take your license and put a sticker on the back...

i have two stickers on mine:

1. sticker 'A' ... no seatbelt... (yellow sticker)

2. sticker 'D' ... drunk driving (red sticker)

i think its rather funny they chose to give 'D' for drunk...

nowadays if i know i can make a clean get away, i dont even stop ....

I doubt there is such a thing as demerit points as it was published in the papers not long ago that they intend to set up a country wide data bank to keep track of individuals and their criminal records. Yes, in 2007, they still write that stuff down in big ledgers. :o No wonder criminal investigations are such a joke.

I was informed that I have 10 points on my license which I earned by running a red light.

At the same time the police told me you get 30 points / year and then a ban.

It was the first I or her indoors had heard of it.

Cheers

yes there is 30 points on your driver license....but you take all your points back in first january, so don't lose more than 30 points in one year. Only seen the police taking care of the points in Bkk but it will com everywhere soon.... maybe

I got wheel clamped on Thong Lor the other day, and no one said anything about points or stickers when I went down to the station.

Even talked my way into a discount from the dude sitting in front of the huge plasma TV with the pile of JW whisky next to him.

I once got 40 points from some cop with a chip on his shoulder for just having my front wheels on the zebra crossing :o I was told that 60 points would result in some sort of punishment..something about attending a traffic course. This was over four years ago on my first license. I found out that 40 was the maximum number of points for one offense. For all those points, I should have driven the car through the mall!

The only points I thought you get in Pattaya are their's towards a free microwave oven if they write enough tickets!
