It has to be the height of sadness, being arrested in Pattaya for having porn on your PC. Were it any other city in any other country I might begin to understand it, but .....
Jingthing Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 So what's the back(side?) story? Did he take the machine in for repair? What kind of porn? Its crazy that regular adult porn would be illegal here. I understand the laws against producing the porn here though.
chiang mai Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I hear the sound of a thousand delete buttons being pressed all over Thailand!
Jingthing Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Show me a man who says he doesn't look at porn on his computer and I'll show you a big assed LIAR! If this was adult porn, the Thais don't have enough jails to enforce this.
Ulysses G. Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Show me a man who says he doesn't look at porn on his computer and I'll show you a big assed LIAR! Normally, I would agree, but I find little use for porn when I am surrounded by THE REAL THING!
Jingthing Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Normally, I would agree, but I find little use for porn when I am surrounded by THE REAL THING! Budget stretcher, mate.

GooMaiRoo Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Are you sure you heard correctly and his name wasn't Alan Charles Manson? Now that surely would make worldwide news
pointofview Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 It is actually against the law in Thailand to view porn on a computer - never mind downloading it. Mutilated dead bodies is fine though!!!!!
mrt273nva Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 so very backwards. do they even recognize the irony?

Pattaya_Fox Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Tourist Police seize over 100,000 indecent images from 75 Year Old English Man. We joined the Tourist Police as they conducted a raid of room number 95 at the Diana Estate in Soi Boekeow on Tuesday Afternoon on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court. The room occupant is Mr. Alan Charles Mawson aged 75 from England who was suspected of possessing indecent images. A search of the room took place and officers found photo albums and pornographic CD’s. More than 100,000 indecent images and more than 300 pornographic CD’s were confiscated and Mr. Marson was placed under arrest and taken to the Tourist Police Station. We understand that Police suspect that Mr. Mawson was selling images to friends; however this is still under investigation. It is also known that he has been collecting these images over many years and other residents were aware of his actions. The British Embassy in Bangkok are monitoring the case and will offer consular services to the suspect if required. Pattaya City News 23rd October 2007

Kerryd Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 It is actually against the law in Thailand to view porn on a computer - never mind downloading it. Mutilated dead bodies is fine though!!!!! True enough. I remember a story a couple of years ago now, about a guy that agreed to pay a Beach Rd girl 3,000 baht if he could take pictures of them having sex. Afterwards he supposedly only gave her 1,000 baht. She got pissed and brought her boyfriend back to beat the guy up. Police were called, and when they checked his computer they found pictures of him having sex with other girls (not kiddy porn). He was arrested and charged for possessing pornography ! (Oh yeah, from what I recall, the boyfriend never did get charged with assault or anything). I thought Canada was weird with their views at times. You can buy a Playboy or Penthouse in the airport and take it on the plane (departing Canada). But you aren't allowed to bring the exact same magazine back into the country ! When I was posted from Germany back to Canada in the late 80's, I had a couple of Playboys I had bought in the Canadian shop. They were purchased in Canada (taxes paid and everything), shipped to Germany, sold on the Canadian base to Canadians, but it was illegal to bring those magazines back into Canada. Kinda like Thailand, where you can buy soft-core issues of Penthouse all over town, but risk jail if you have a soft-core picture on your computer.
piker Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 It is actually against the law in Thailand to view porn on a computer - never mind downloading it. Mutilated dead bodies is fine though!!!!! Just as long as they're not naked or copulating.

And you standing behind me with all those porn DVD's poking me in the back - <deleted> off! Go over and sell them to that nice policeman watching us from the corner while accepting bribe from the two nice drug dealers!
taxexile Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 this doomed old brit looks remarkably like albert steptoe.
Jingthing Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 OK, so this was indeed much more serious than downloading legal adult porn and saving it on his computer.
Phil Conners Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Pattaya is known for its nightlife, thriving sex industry and popularity among foreign fugitives and criminal gangs. -msn
THAILIBAN Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I hear the sound of a thousand delete buttons being pressed all over Thailand! pushing DELETE button doesnt help a thing..... then it's still on ur Comp, and can be easily found by even not-so-sophisticated investigators.... I assume 99% of the computer users here in Thailand do not really care much about deleting files or any private or business data on their computers properly.....
THAILIBAN Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 OK, so this was indeed much more serious than downloading legal adult porn and saving it on his computer. there is no legal adult porn in Thailand. if u have a topless pin-up girl as a screensaver on ur Comp, you are a criminal and a threat to the country and will be subject to prosecution and deportation.... those are the REAL problems that Thailand has, isnt it ?

Yes, I know what you mean, but where have you heard of any prosecutions for that? Or hiring a legal age prostitute?
Tony Clifton Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 It is actually against the law in Thailand to view porn on a computer - never mind downloading it. Mutilated dead bodies is fine though!!!!! Good point....! But as you know, porn does not exist in Thailand Those 60 million Thais were also all conceived in a test tube, except for Thai-Farang mariages.
