TAT CITES 18-year-old FOR HER HONESTY

Store girl return Bt100K to tourist

WHEN 18-year-old Thidarat Ratsamee reported for work on Oct. 2 as store clerk at Top Supermarket in Chaweng , she thought it would just be another day.

It turned out to be out of the ordinary when toward the end of her shift she found a black wallet with around Bt100,000 in cash and three credit cards in it.

Although it was a huge sum, close to a year’s earnings for her, it never occured to her, she later told Samui Express, to pocket the money. Yet no one else saw her pick up the wallet.

Thidarat promptly reporter her find to her manager. They looked inside the wallet for any identification of the owner, who turned out to be Raffet Hariokru, a 33-year-old tourist from Turkey.

Close to a year's earnings ?? Closer to two years I'd say...

well that won't go far toward reinforcing the crime don't pay adage ....................

a credit to her parents and the store.

hope she gets a generous reward from the turk.

She only got 3000 baht :o

and since when is a reward obligatory for simply doing the right thing?

Certainly not obligatory but maybe a reward is nice when so so many people in this life "simply do not do the right thing" ??

If you lost 100K cash in Thailand or anywhere for that matter would you hold out much hope of getting it back?

Her parents should be very proud...I would be.

in some countries rewards between 5 and 10% are obligatory by law and i think it would have been the right thing to do and reward the honest girl with 10k.

edited for addendum:

in my home country Germany the obligatory rewards regulated by law are:

10% for value up to €UR 2,000

5% for value exceeding €UR 2,000

Now he have a second chance to go cleaning the money.

But maybe he just take out this money from the ATM around the corner a few minutes before....

and he still has the receipts from that transactions with him for confirm that is legal money :D 55555

Sometimes carrying 100k in your wallet is safer then putting it in the hotel safe. :o

It is around 2000 euro. Not that much when you go on a holiday.

I've never understood why some people risk carrying all their holiday money in cash.

me too :D we are in the year 2550 (2007) the Flintstone-time is over,

we can have credit-cards, traveler-checks, ATM-cards from the homebank and so one...

everything has more security than a lot of cash on the body (specially during the nighttime).

Can somebody tell me, what size a wallet has that contains 100k baht ???

I think this wallet would be about 5cm thick (folded) or not? maybe more......

or 10cm thick if he have everything in 500bt banknotes :D

People like this, you can see from 20m away if they have a wallet with that size in their pocket.... :D
