The Russians are coming:

Great News, from past experiences on the Island the Russians that do come on holidays here are very well off and stay in Top end hotels, only problem is They STAY in the hotel's and don't support local business - Not all now mind but most. I welcome the Russians with open arms - the more tourists coming to this lovely Island the better for all.

Air Astana ( Kazakhstan Airline ) fly direct to Bangkok 3 days a week from Almaty and are completely full but most of these Kazak's stay on the main land - we need to try entice these people to the Islands - I'm sure the only thing stoping these people is the 8K TB return airfare with BKKA. :D

the islander pub and restaurant get so many ,they have menu's in russian .

I'm sure the Russians would love to support local businesses if locals spoke more Russian. Russians generally don't speak much English so it's not all that easy to communicate here. A month ago I met two Russian couples. One of the women acted as translator for the other three.

Thats interesting, because Czech citizens still only get a 15 day VOA and they are in the EU.

Whats even more interesting is that apparently the Thai Embassy in the UK website hasn't updated either:

As are 8 others on that list. And that is strange. Probably one of the VERY few instances where Russian citizens get more preferential visa treatment than EU citizens.
