Hi, anyone been to chong mek border pass in Ubon recently?

I went a few years back and was allowed into the "no man's land" to shop in the market for about 20 baht.

Now you have to get a Lao visa and exit Thailand!!

Has anyone done a visa run here? are they friendly?

Like to hear about anyones recent experiences here.

Thanks :o:D

Was there in August and then those trips were still permitted (read that in inverted commas). Because it really hinges on the whimp of the officials on duty, as well as your language capabilities and the speed with which you can flutter your lashes (if you are a woman :D )

went this week ,you now have to stop at the ampur building in si ridorn to get the thai border pass which is now 30 bhat, and then you go in as usual to do your visa run , thats just the same but they are rebuilding the whole place so it might all change when they have finished

Well. I think you should play it safe. Those trips 'just to the market' were always not really legal and highly up to the officials in charge. A friend of mine recently surrendered his passport at immigration and just crossed by joining some returning cabbage carts. Better not to count on 'just crossing'.
