Buying Car With A Credit Card

Featured Replies

I'm about to buy a second car - a little Yaris - for around 700k and while I have the cash sitting around in an account ready to write a cheque when it's delivered, it occurred to me that I could also hand over my Amex, earn some valuable air miles, and then use the cash to immediately repay the payment.

Has anyone ever done this here?

I tried it but since they wanted to tack on 3% "processing/handling" fee for credit card use I went the cash route.

Ski and Goong

I tried the same thing to get some Air Miles, but like ski_goong said, they said it would be an extra 3% on top (at first they just flat out said no).

The % can vary for MasterCard, Visa and Amex. If that is not enough, on a foreign card there are exchange rate issues and another 1% or so for processing.

Needless to say I went the cash route.
