Thai Visiting Laos - Id Card Only

Featured Replies

Hi, Apologies, I know this has been asked before but I've seen conflicting answers, all from quite a while ago and things may have changed.

I want to take my Thai girlfriend with me on my visa run to Vientiane. She doesn't have a passport, only an ID card. I know she can get an entry permit at the friendship bridge but how long does that entitle her to stay in Laos?

Is it 3 days/ 2 nights?

For example, we want to enter on the Tuesday morning and leave Thursday afternoon, will this be ok?

Thanks in advance.

1. With a passport your Thai GF would get 30 days, that does not help of course.

2. Laos people form Vientiane can travel back and forth on their IDs til Udon Thani, so can Thai people. This does not help either.

3. After talking to my Missus, she told me that she would get that info from Nong Khai Immmigration. So make your GF call them,

here is some help in this respect

I went over the bridge last April and my buddies Thai partner only had her ID card. I don't recall how many days she was allowed (we were only up there for a 24-hour skydive) but one thing to note, it was not a fast entry process. it took well over an hour to process her through with ID card only. However, coming back was no hassle.
