Non-thai Laptops For Thai Readers

Featured Replies

Greetings,

I'm looking to bring a laptop from the US to a friend in Thailand on my next trip and was wondering if anybody had any experience using converting a US/English for Thai use.

I understand there are sticker sets to overlay on the keys, but I am concerned about key layouts on laptops that might make this tough. I assume a Thai version of Windows XP will install without a problem.

For those interested, the laptop I am looking at picking up is a Dell Vostro - recently discounted to only ~US$400 which seems like a steal.

Thanks for any and all advice offered.

Don't worry! Everything will works just fien. Install Thai Windows is nothin but just an Windows Installation which you can do in english as well. The Sticker fir the Keyboards are special for laptops and the Laptop Keyboards.

So just go ahead and do it!

There are plenty of non-Thai laptops sold in Thailand every day. And yes, the only thing done is to install XP/Vista (set it to Thai) and put the stickers on. If you don't like the stickers, you can try to find the localized keyboard.

If you don’t want to use the perfectly good key stickers then why not buy one of those clear roll up USB keyboards [think about 199 baht] friend has one + I have used it, it is fine, and almost better to type with than the position on the laptop keyboard
