Tot Ipstar Shaping Bandwidth

I never had to post one of these before, but started yesterday when I start a download it begins at 256k then within a minute it is 128k or less.  If I start two streams at the same time they both drop to 64k each. ect.  again it takes between 30 sec and a minute to kick in. smells like bandwidth shaping.  I pay 1500B amonth for 256k and they think they need to reduce my downloads to half speed.  Worse I try to download iso of Kubuntu from th mirror, after 200+ megs and many hours of downloading (because of the lost speed) the server resets and won't resume, total waste of time, I knew I should have not used a th mirror, but was hoping it would load faster, but my bandwidth is being reduced both in th and out, and the server here proved as normal something not to be trusted.  I put all downloading on hold as at this time the speed is ever worse at only 25k.  I hope this is not going to last, but as I have seen from past posting here I feel a new member of the rip off club.  If this is 256k for 1500B a month it may as well be uninstalled and I will go back to UBC re runs.

You don't have ADSL in your area i guess ? now that's dumb to shape a low connection to begin with, but i see where the Isps want to get : give more cash and you get no limitations.

I see that a big problem in the future for Internet café, it's already a pain to not have a connection realiable 24/7 but with shaping it's : "get out of business"

We don't even have phones I use the IPstar for that also phone seems to been working.  It was all I could do to get a video connection with mom back home, I guess I can just forget about that.

I have been watching the connection mostly at the top of each hour. tic toc tic toc 8pm download shoots from 128k to 256k just like that.  So if my cal is correct at 6am in the morning it will shift back to 128k as it was this moring.  So prim customers can have my bandwidth.  Accuse me, but 1500B for 256k I feel like I share enough, someone with 2m @ 1000B needs my bandwidth????  This is BS.

i don't think Tot is shaping on ipstart, shaping is not half speed, shaping is sub level 56k speed for anything but http:// seems like your ToT ipstar is well not reliable at all (as is ToT adsl btw)

For 5 months I never saw anything like this. Slow is random speed comes and goes that happens friday nite etc. and a start of a download will start slow, but this was start a download and it shot to 256 and walked down and ran at half speed like a rock. Stop and then start two at a time, same thing shot up walked down to total half speed each download running 64k one from us other thai mirror. Thats not a slow connection its vary much a controlled reduction and it ran like that all day. will see what happens in the next few days.

I had Loxinfo IPStar (256/128) for 2 years at 2 different locations. At best, the speeds were inconsistent. My worst nightmare was trying to upload a lot of small files to my server. Even largish .zip files wouldn't work because of so many packet losses.

I had tech serve out 3 time the second year. The tech told me not to expect more than 60k on upload as "everyone wants download". They change me from one gateway to another 3 x (probably back and forth), and each time the speed was better for awhile, but would slowly degrade to something approaching dialup.

My experience were not so recent, however, as I moved from that area in July.

Today I had no time to do anything got pretty much called away.  For five months it worked as good as it should never acted like it started the other day, you can tell if its a slow connection.  This connection was fine, started fast and ya see it get caught and pulled down to half speed like it was set at 128.  Lasted until 8pm then bang was fine again.  Have to watch it a few days and see if it keeps repeating it.  I know my torrent over nite was the pits total 34m all nite, but its hard to say with torrents the peers play large roll, normally would have been 400 -600mb over nite.  I will have no fresh Kubuntu distro to play with tonite at this rate it will be sometime next week.  As slow as I type TV has yet to finish loading the Initializing Attachments..part of this page.  Its bad when web browsing get slower then I can type.

Just after my last post I lost everything even the phone when it came back a few minutes ago everything is working like the good old days.  surfing with downloads no problem.  Must have been something broken somewhere, its looking good now.
