Laos/china Crossing

Featured Replies

Will be in Louangphrabang (probably spelt wrong) soon and possibility of going to China for a few days. Are there any crossing open to foreigners. Visa on arrival possible? Done a quick search on the net but can't find the name of any crossing along that border. Will be taking TGF, any problems there? If necessary, we can go to Chinese embassy in BKK for visa in advance.

Thanks.

You can cross into China from Laos at Boten, a tiny border town in northern Luang Nam Tha Province, Laos. That's the only border crossing between the two countries that's legal. There are buses from Luang Prabang to Luang Nam Tha several times a day. From LNT it's another short bus hop to Boten.

Both you and your g/f will need visas on advance, visa on arrival in China is not possible.

The visas are pretty pricey, so depending on your finances you may not find it feasible for a visit of just a few days.
