No Claims Bonus

Featured Replies

On another thread, I stated that I have had a couple of claimable incidents but they were perhaps small enough that in the west, we would not risk our no claims bonus. However, some posters say that the no claims bonus here is so small or near non existent and not worth protecting. So, I am asking for your experiences to try and judge whether it is worth claiming or not.

For my part, I have a D-Max with an insurance bill of about Bt18,000 per year.

Indeed, here it is such a small amount that it doesnt really matter.

Additionally, the insurance goes with the vehicle, not you, so if a claim has been made on your vehicle, then you sell it after having claimed, the higher premium is passed onto the next owner when the renew their insurance.

With this in mind, if anyone were to be buying a used car, its allways best to get an insurance quote when you have the plate number of THAT car you are looking at. :o

Sorry but whilst I understand the insurance goes with the car, that logic is potty. So instead of having a bad driver, you have an "unlucky" car. Even this lot here can't be that stupid. The history of the insured must be at least partially reviewed for renewal purposes.

IMHO the 'decrease in insurance costs'>>which many presume to be "no claims deduction" is only linked to the depreciation of car itself .. ie. if you read >new car value*??> than it goes down ,as car ages .. you may also change insurer>or check>>you'll get VERY similar quotes(year on year)

Potty, yes i agree.

Fact, im afraid so.

I have insurance with Virapha. I have an older car so don't have 1st class insurance. The total premium is 4676, and the no claim deduction is 2338, so my final bill was 2512. That's not a bad discount, and I have had that for 9 years. That doesn't cover loss of the vehicle, which is 35 years old, but provides unlimited 3rd party coverage and some personal accident coverage. I don't know why I get the no claim bonus as I did have a claim a few years back for an accident that was my fault. Perhaps the bonus was higher back then, I don't know. I do enjoy having ins. coverage that works out to 7 baht a day. Without the bonus that would be almost 14 baht!
