Allardyce retains owner's backing

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley remains confident manager Sam Allardyce can turn the team's fortunes around, according to chairman Chris Mort.

The 53-year-old came in for severe criticism from fans during Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Liverpool.

Newcastle are without a win in four games and the pressure on Allardyce could increase with Blackburn and leaders Arsenal the next two opponents.

When asked if Allardyce has the owner's support, Mort said: "Yes, absolutely."

Ashley, who completed a £134.4m takeover of the club in June, allowed Allardyce to invest heavily in the summer but there appears to have been little improvement on the pitch.

The former Bolton manager was targeted with chants of "You don't know what you're doing", "Big Sam for England" and "We've only had one shot" as the Magpies were beaten by Rafael Benitez's men.

"Sam is a very experienced manager, and I am sure he will work hard with his coaching team to turn the team around," said Mort.

"He is working hard to get his best team, and how they can work together in the best way.

"Hopefully, we will see that come together over the weeks to come."

Allardyce ordered his players in for an unscheduled training session on Sunday as they prepare for Saturday's trip to Ewood Park, before facing Arsenal at St James' Park.

So is this the kiss of death? Not, good when the Chairman comes out to say that he's behind you. Normally, that means with a big Knife. :o

Last week Big Sam ruled himself out of the England job. After last weekend's debacle against Liverpool he must be having second thoughts about replacing McClaren. If Big Sam could get out of Newcastle just now with his reputation still in tact, I think he might take it.

Did you see all those Skunks at the Landfill giving Allardyce their vote of confidence last weekend?

Mark my words, the crowds at Sid James Park will begin tumbling when they open the gates and let them go home instead of keeping them behind bars all season.

He reckons he's only got two games left to save his job. If they lose today in similar fashion he might not have that long.

The next 2 games are against Blackburn and Arsenal so there is a good chance that the big man may be soon packing his bags.

Good result for the Skunks. Is that one more chance BSA has now??

The performance was a lot better than the result suggests. All credit to the Newcastle fans as they backed the team and manager from start to finish.

That's because the ones who complained last week are still locked inside Sid James Park. :o

He can't be to far away now from the chop , at least he didn't get arrested :o .

One game left, if he is lucky. Don't be suprised if he's signing on, on Tuesday morning.

Sam Allardyce = 80's Sunderland hero and 00's legend :o

Cheers Sam ... we knew you wouldn't let us down.

Loos's like Shearer is going to finally get what he has wanted for the past four years, just in time for Christmas.

It certainly does, doesn't it. He'll be this season's Newcastle darling....................then next season will be the same headlines with just a name change :o

Allerdyce has said that Shearer has told him he's not ready for management.

Dont know weather he meant Sam or himself though

I have to say that I don't beleive anything that Shearer says or is quoted as saying, with regards to his managerial ambitions. He has been pulling strings and undermining managers up there for the last 6 years.

I for one, will be glad when he gets the job, and then he can prove to everyone how good a manager he is or isn't.

Looking at all the comments coming out from players and management at Newcastle, I have to say it really isn't looking good for Big Sam. I suppose this time tomorrow we will have a bit more of an indication of what is going to happen. I still believe that Shearer will be the manager if Sam gets the sack this week, or whenever the time comes.

I totally concur Mr.T.

Whatever happens Shearer will be Newcastle's next manger.

Should add a little extra spice when they play Sunderland again.....more chance of there being a punch up on the bench than on the pitch!!!

Funnily enough, the best players in the NE will all be on the bench. Keane, Shearer and probably Michael Owen, if he has managed to climb off the treatment table. :o

A lot of people forget that Shearer was assistant to Roeder when Newcastle went on a great run at the end of the 05\06 season. It was only when Shearer left that Roeder and Newcastle really began to struggle last season.

I agree with most that it's only a matter of time until Shearer gets the job.

Stays or Goes, its a moneymaker right now.

For you guys out of Thailand(betting is illegal here :o )

Skybet is offering 5-4 he stays to the end of the season

Bet 365 is offering 13-8 he goes.

Therefore with a bank of say 2000 squid a thousand on each option guarantees you a profit of at least 225 squid...over 10% on your original stake :D

Looking at the geordies recent choice of manager since Kevin Keegan , it wouldn't surprise me if they went for Cappello.

Kevin Keegan

Kenny Dalglish

Ruud Gullit

Bobby Robson

Graeme Souness

Glen Roeder

Big Sam

The only manager since Keegan to do a decent job was Bobby Robson and they ended up sacking him :D .

I think they haven't won anything major in the last 50 odd years at St James Park , the fans must be well piss#d off with the lack of a serious challenge and losing in finals.

I think they've still got to give Big Sam some more time , but if the board do get rid of him then the next guy they bring in ( Shearer , Cappelo :o ) has got to bring some silverware to Newcastle.

1969 Inter City Fairs Cup was the last trophy that Newcastle won.

Anyway looks like Big Sam will hold on to his job for a bit longer as Newcastle got a respectable 1-1 against Arsenal last night.

The Inter City Fairs Cup is hardly a 'major' trophy Spit , by Newcastle standards.

Well done last night and it was a well deserved point against the second best team in England :o .

I reckon this could be the kind of result Big Sam needed to kick start the season and with a run of good results all the calls for Sam to be sacked will die down.

The Inter City Fairs Cup was the old name for the UEFA Cup. I'm quite sure that there would be massive celebrations up in Tyneside if Newcastle were to ever win the UEFA Cup. In fact there would probably be mass celebrations if they even qualified for it next season.

Right , now I remember , that was what the uefa cup was called before they had the cup winners cup.

It was a major cup after all :D . Apologies Spit :D .

( o-k then , 38 years not 50 :o ).

At a time when news was transferred by word of mouth and could not be verified, it has been proved on the Discovery Channel that Newcastle United didn't in fact win the old equivalent of the UEFA Cup, they actually won the British Rail Inter City Fares Cup when they beat Crewe Railway Yard Albion 5-4 in a best of 9 game of stone-paper-scissors when the original game, tied at 1-1, was abandoned when the ball got stuck between a rail and a sleeper. Until now this remains Newcastle's only silverware in the last 100 years. Any reference to FA Cup glory in the 1950's is pure fiction. It never happened. :D

There will be mass celebrations on North Tyneside when they open the gates and let the poor buggers out!!
