Phuket held activities for Disabled Day.

All types, genders and ages of disabled people in Phuket attended an annual event in recognition of the International Disabled Day, held on November 28th at the Community Hall in Phuket. Around 2,000 are disabled registered with authorities in Phuket, 700 of them are visually impaired. The participants were provided with health check ups, career demonstrations, job application opportunities and so on. They also enjoyed performances from Special School students and the Senior Citizens Club. The authority took the opportunity to inform and encourage them to come out to exercise their votes for the general election on 23rd December.

A seminar on ‘Techniques to raise teenage children’ was held in Phuket as part of activities arranged to raise public awareness on World AIDS Day.

Parents, mostly mothers with teenage children, attended a seminar and listened to specialists on ‘technique to raise teenage children” at the Phuket Merlin hotel in the city. Organised by the Office of Provincial Public Health, the event also featured exhibitions on the preventive measures and knowledge on diseases while condoms were also distributed for different organization. The office also targets at seven educational institutes, and the general public at various locations. World AIDS Day, observed on 1st December each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic, caused by the spread of HIV infection and this year’s theme is still ‘Stop AIDS, keep the promise.’

A property auction was held in Phuket.

10 property items, mostly land plots with buildings, were put up for auction at the Execution Office in Phuket City yesterday. They are properties from all three districts of Phuket. The event was well participated in by interested buyers. The office’s Director Santas Prasarnwan said in the past two years, his office managed to earn 1,300 million baht and this year alone it targets to earn about 1,300 million baht. The next public auction sessions will be held on 6, 13, and 20 December 2007.

TAT invites young people to do good deeds for HM the King by cleaning the beach and planting trees in Phuket.

Students from Phuket Vocational college along with staff from Arahmas Resort and Spa, Phuket and Media Club members of Phuket are scheduled to gather for a beach cleaning activity plus tree planting on Saturday 1st December at the Saphan Hin beach in Phuket city. Initiated by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phuket Office, the event is aimed at having young people involved in environmental conservation as part of the good deeds the whole nation carry out for the beloved monarch for his 80th Birthday Anniversary on 5th December. The activity will take place during 7-9 am and the TAT invites the general public to participate in the activity.

50,000 baby dog conches were released into the sea for sustainable resources in Krabi.

50,000 dog conches, known in Thai as ‘Hoy Chak Teen’, were released into sea off the Sri Boya Island in Krabi’s Nua Klong district on Wednesday. The project was initiated by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand or EGAT in tribute to HM the King. The release took place after the Power Plant in Krabi conducted the cultivation and breeding of the dog conches as they became famous sea food for the Andaman region. The activity was led by the Krabi Governor Siwa Sirisaowaluck before the group came back to the beach of Ban Lang Koh on the Sri Borya Island for a seminar on how to make sustainable living among dog conches and sea grass. The dog conch is commonly found in Indo – West Pacific and also in Krabi. They live where the sea grass and sea weed are. They have become very famous seafood for the region.

Bicycle club members in Thakuapa campaign for global warming reduction.

More than 70 bicycle riders from a club in Thakuapa gathered and rode their bikes out to campaign for global warming reductions. They put on yellow helmets and rode from Bang Muang along the main route of Thakuapa to encourage people to consume less fuel and energy. They also took the opportunity to campaign for people to come out to vote in the 23rd December general election.

7 families in Phang-Nga’s Koh Yao district were handed over new homes under the Local Administration Department’s project.

The handover ceremony was presided over by the Phang Nga Governor Wichai Prisa-ngob on 27th November in front of the picture of HM the King. The home building project was launched by the Department of Local Administration in conjunction with the Association of local government organizations nationwide in tribute to HM the King for his 80th Birthday Anniversary, selecting those who are less fortunate and in need of housing. It encourages contributions form local government bodies, local residents to improve the quality of life for people in their own communities. Phang Nga aims to have 52 homes built, with seven on Koh Yao district.
