Heard through the grapevine some months ago, that someone was toying with the idea of opening a Samui talk back radio station, where you could call in and talk on any subject,

Also you could advertise your business, Discuss current Samui topics.

Weather, Tides, Traffic, Holes in the road haha etc etc.

Coverage of sporting events.

Debates on air on business and political views.

Bit like this forum in a way.

I guess you could tell the Tourists the hot spots and where to go, ( also where to buy Cigars).

After 8pm just play mostly music with the odd advertisement thrown in here and there. Could be a good business if the person goes ahead with it.

Who ever that person is I would like to apply now for the Gourmet Critic as I am an international

Traveling Gourmet and would love to eat at all the expensive and inexpensive restaurants (for free of course) on the islands have the owners all suck up to me big time and then get on the radio and give my expert opinion.

Has anyone heard of this radio station and when does it open??

If its not opening the who wants to start one up.

Well if the person who originaly was going to start this up, please PM me because if your not, I WILL.

Then any suggestions on content of this radio show would be greatfull. And then I WILL hire myself to be the Gourmet Critic.

Any one have experience in this field, I am sure its not that hard, and it would be great fun i think.

I am only aware of one English language FM radio station that ever existed here.

You could call in too, for requests or just a chat. Played great music from around 4PM to pretty late, depending on how long the DJ could hang in there.

In fact, "goooooood evening koh samui" was my catch call as I was the DJ at that radio station, "Planet Radio Lamai" was its name.

Ran for a while out of Lamai, could get it all over Lamai and over the hill a bit in Chaweng too.

Now, to the best of my knowledge no farang can get a proper license to run any type of radio station.

And from what I see on Samui, it is not easy for a Thai to get said license either.

Our FM radio station got shut down by order of the Gummint because our negotiations to get a license failed.

Great idea but the powers-that-be, those who know more than we mortals, well they just say "no way - no license".

You could try to apply again, the transmitter equipment is not very expensive at all. Run the whole thing out of a single PC using Winamp you can.

If you get a license, let me know via forum here, it'd be most interesting.

cheers

Only interested if it's gonna have "Late Night Love" or a version thereof....

Whats late night looove, oooohhhh its sounds HOT.

We could have "Match Mate" where you call up give your stats and we find someone interested in your stats, then you go out on a blind date, all expenses paid but you must come on the radio after that date and you TELL ALL.

Radio comes under media and is on the FBA list of business's falangs cannot do

Dam, now i know how that American guy wmk005 with his tobacco shop feels,

what a bumber.

What if we hide the radio in the hills and do pirate radio, guess no one will pay to advertise if its not leagal. not doing it for nothing.

I am sure i heard once a station from Phangan while driving through BanRak.

Any of you people over there know about this, or is it TOP SECRETE or shut down already?

Koh Phangan does have a radio station, I am not sure who owns it, could be the Tessaban but I don't know for sure. It is Thai run, however, with only a bit of English language programming, and has been running for about 2 years.

Start an internet radio station. Very easy. Who has a radio receiver these days anyway. :o

That's a doable solution. I got my own private station that follows me everywhere in the world with over 1000 of my favourite artists, over 5000 albums and 8000 hand picked, -rated songs. However doing public webradio requires little bit more since you'll be streaming it live and preferably adding files for others to listen later. Check this option (my channel at yahoo) for starter options. There's plenty of options out there though...
