MiniVDO: Phuket Province promotes transparency in the election.

In support of the general election, the Phuket province targets to have at least 70% of eligible voters to come out to cast their votes on December 23rd. The provincial authority also campaigns for all its districts and sub-districts, villages and communities to act against vote-buying. It seeks cooperation from the provincial Education Area to encourage the students who are eligible voters to exercise their rights. The student procession to promote the election will be arranged on 14th December at 3pm. They will be starting from Tesaban Muang Phuket School and Sanam Chai and march to Saphin Hin before taking part in a vow against vote buying.

The Phuket Vice Governor Tri Akkaradecha presided over the democracy promotion activities, campaigning for people to exercise their rights in the December 23rd general election and act against vote buying. The participants also were briefed on election procedures and against illegal acts. Each community in the Phuket City are urged to pledge for clear and clean elections and anti-vote-buying. Meanwhile our Television Channel 11 joins hands with the Phuket Provincial Election Commission to encourage public participation by giving out a nice shirt saying ‘My vote decides Thailand’s future’ for people who get the right answer to a question about the December 23rd election.

The students aged under 18 years old at Satree Phuket School are taking part in the democratic process by being volunteers for democracy. The students pledged to promote and encourage their family members who are eligible voters to cast their votes in the general election. The program to campaign and promote democracy rotates into different schools in Phuket, hoping that the young people will play great roles in contributing to the provincial target of having over 70% of eligible voters to come out to vote in the December 23rd election.

Mr Nikorn Jamnong and Mr Jongchai Tiang-tham, Deputy Leader of the Chart Thai party, yesterday helped the party’s local candidates to stage a political rally seeking support from local voters. They went on a convoy going around Patong and held a rally at Saphan Hin in Phuket City at 6pm yesterday. Meanwhile Mr Korn Thaparangsri, who is also the party deputy leader, stated tourism promotion as the party’s main policy. He sought vote support by stating that if the party candidates get elected they would pursue the party leader Mr Banharn Silp-Archa’s policy on tourism development.

MiniVDO: The Morgan population in Phang-Nga said they need to learn about the new procedure for the election and called for the election officials to explain it to them.

More than 110 families of Morgan sea gypsies in Phang-Nga’s Thap Tawan village of Thakuapa insisted that they would take part in the country’s democratic procedures by coming out to exercise their right for the general election on December 23rd. Around 100 of them are illiterate so they called for the election officials to visit and educate them on the election procedure, demonstrate to them or even show examples of the ballot cards. A villager Raab Harnthale suggested that the officials visit them in the evening after 6 pm as they have to go out to work during day time.

The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, which manages Phuket International Airport, have informed Andaman News about their latest statistics up to the end of October 2007. They showed a total of 32,869 aircraft movements, both in and out, up 33.27 % from the same period of 2006. The total numbers of arriving, departing and transit passengers, both domestic and international in the first 10 months of the year was 4,591,922 showing an increase of 22.39% compared to the same 10 months in 2006: These are again the highest ever numbers at Phuket. The total freight in and out showed 14,728 tonnes in and out, a 11.06% increase.

These cattle were prevented from being killed, and given out to farmers instead. A total of 104 cattle were handed over to farmers from five districts of Phang Nga. They are from Phang Nga town district, Kapong, Thakua Thung, Kuraburi and Thakupa. Some cash donations were also made by the Phang Nga governor, vice governor and head officials in Phang Nga. The event took place in Prapas Prajimtanyakhet in Phang Nga town.

MiniVDO: The 3rd year of Tsunami commemorative ceremonies are scheduled to be held in Phang-Nga and Phuket.

The Thai government is organizing the 3rd year of Tsunami commemorative events on December 26th focusing on Phang-Nga. In the morning the memorial services will take place in Bang Niang near the main road where the police patrol boat was washed ashore and at a memorial site in the fishing village of Ban Namkem. Religious ceremonies will also take place. In the evening Princess Ubolratana will graciously preside over the commemorative ceremony at Chong Fah beach like last year. The Phang-Nga provincial authority is now working on the preparation for the event. The commemorative ceremony will be televised live nationwide by Television Channel 11. In Phuket the Provincial Administration Organization is holding a ‘Light up Patong’ event in commemoration of people who departed in the December 26th tragic incident.
