My PC is about 2 years old. It is a P4 2.94ghz running XP Pro. 80gig HD and no other modifications. The system is a Compaq Presario straight out of the box.

No problems until this week when the fan seems to be running very often. I never noticed it at all before. Now I have no idea why, the vents are not clogged and it is in the same place in the computer desk it has been since I bought it.

As for running slow it just seems things are taking longer to load and shut down. I've run my usual cc cleaner, spybot, I have Zone Alarm, AVG, Scotty, Avira AntiVir and Super Anti Spy on it.

Does it need a "service" ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

My thoughts: Which fan? Power supply fan, cooling fan or CPU fan.

1. Have you ever opened the case? ven if the vents are not clogged, you would be surprised how much dust gets inside a desktop or tower case. Gently blow out the dust.

2. It is possible one of the cables is coming in contact with the fan blades. With the case open, look and listen.

3. Is the power supply on the way out?
