Just bought my son a wii wonderful machine, it is chipped to play any games, I have set it up on the wirless network we have and now I have a message saying there is a systen update available.

My question is if I do the update will it affect its current status to play any games available here, you know the ones I mean but can't mention :o

Any advice welcome

As of now, no, there is no problem with updates. Even if you don't go online, newer games will contain the updates, too. However, there's no guarantee that future updates won't brick a chipped Wii.

Note that this is a problem with updating a NTSC chipped Wii with a PAL game, and vice versa. It can brick your Wii. However, since there are so few PAL games sold, and most systems are NTSC, it shouldn't be of much concern in Thailand.

A little bird told me, if you want to play SMG this detects your chip and won't play. If you have an upgradable chip like the wiikey, you can download an update from their website, then perform the SMG disk upgrade. My little bird did this and all works well.

Firefoxx, I am just checking. As far as you know, is it still OK to allow the updates? My kid has a WII (recently purchased) that was bought in Thailand (US version) and is chipped. She has recently bought an NTSC game (a copy) that states that it carries an update and this update could interfere with a machine that has been modified. Taking the cautious route, I told her not to play that game, but would like to know if you or anyone else has had any problems with these games on machines that have been chipped.

Thanks in advance.
