Microphone - Not Working Since Last Winxp Pro Install

Featured Replies

Happy New Year all....

OK.. My new Dream computer has turned into a series of small problems resulting on a number or trips back to Pantip, which is Not fun with this Mega Desktop Box I bought.. and also a number of O/S Crashes and re-installs...

All was working well until I crashed again last week... I'm really getting fed-up with that so I'm seriously considering actually giving up and Buying a Legit O/S the next time it happens... Takes days to reload and configure everything again....

Anyway.. for no reason I can figure out or understand, my Mic (Plantronics) no longer will function... It worked fine before my last O/S crash... I tried it on my laptop.. Mic is working no problem... It has to be some setting or switch on my new Desktop.

O/S - WinXP Pro

Soundcard - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio - Functioning and passed all internal tests. - Enabled

OnBoard - Realtek High Definition Audio - Enabled

Speakers - Altec Lansing 2.1 - Working fine

Mic is plugged into soundcard.. absolutely dead in rear Jack... Won't respond to any Mic optimization programs.. like Skype or MSN-IM... Won't respond to input using MS Sound recorder...

I also have a Mic Jack on the top of the computer... When I plug in there I can sometimes get some sort of response but at an almost indistinguishable volume.. so I need to crank it up.. then it starts to feedback terribly.. and when i try to reduce the volume control it will only reset itself back to 100%... I need to mute the speakers and unplug to restore peace.

Does any one have any ideas...?

BTW.. to complicate matters... whereas the computer was bought at Jedi in Pantip, The soundcard is from Hardware House, as Jedi and many other shops don't stock soundcards anymore.. seems most people are satisfied with On-Board sound solutions.

I highly doubt that it is a soundcard problem, as all other functions seem to be normal...

Does anyone have any ideas...

It's a bum way to start the New Year.

Oh Yeah.. Happy New Year all.

I frankly do believe your problems are here:

O/S - WinXP Pro

Soundcard - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio - Functioning and passed all internal tests. - Enabled

OnBoard - Realtek High Definition Audio - Enabled

Speakers - Altec Lansing 2.1 - Working fine

First at all, use only 1 sound device! Either disable the onboard in the Bios or take out the Sound Blaster Card! After that test your Mic! But not forget to enable the Mic in your Sound settings!!

Thanks, Reimer... Happy New Year... BUT....

I disabled Realtek in Device Manager.. rebooted... Same problem.. still No Mic with Sound Card.

Any other ideas???
