Hi guys

I recommended an Acer desktop, the Aspire M1610/L7-AU2L(SE2) which also came with an "ATI Radeon X1550 upto 512mb dvi+tvo port hypermemory" but he ended up with the model M1610/L7-NV1L which has a faster 2.0ghz processor but it doesnt have a graphics card.......

Does anyone have any suggestions what card to buy for around 3,500 or less which would have 512mb memory and would be equivalent to the card shown above and can purchased online please

I am grateful for any suggestions

That just isn't enough money to get even a mid range gaming card. And never let the amount of memory fool you into thinking one card is better than another. Be cautious of cards with lots of memory and a cheap price as they are bound to be dog slow. You'll need twice that sum of money to get a decent card. An ATI 3850 is about as low as one ought dare go for gaming nowadays. Check out The Best Gaming Graphics cards for the Money: December 2007. But perhaps the best thing to do is to indicate what you intend to be able to do with it as that will be telling in how much card you need.

Nvidia 8600 should be ok if you're not a very havy gamer!

Thanks guys, especially Petch

I have decided to get the Spark GeForce 7300GT Maxx 256MB DDR3 from Thanni which seems a good card for under 2000 bht. This should be adequate for most games the kids will play I reckon

cheers

That card isn't good enough for FS-X!! The 8500 GT is the min to run FS-X smooth with everything set to full to get 30 fps! The 7300 brings just 17 fps with settings set to High but not max! THB 3,200 for an 8500 GT 256 MB DDR3 and THB 3,600 for an 8500 with 512 MB DDR 3 or an 8600 GT with 256 MB DDR 3!

Don't buy an low-end card if you want to gaming! And look even for compatibility to DirectX 10.1 which is coming in a few weeks time! The 7300 didn't support DirectX 10.1 and even not DirectX 10 for full! The new games which will coming up would be designed for the latest DirectX Version!

Cheers.

Thanks Reimar, thats a good response and I will take it into consideration. where exactly did you see these cards advertised at those prices...... they sound very appealing and I will reconsider if I can order them online

Agreed, the 7300 is just not up to par, you would have to replace it in a year (or less), even my ATIx800 can not run the latest games. When it comes to gfx cards get the best you can afford.

"ASUS nVidia® GeForce 8400GS 512MB DDR-2 Memory, x16 PCI Express Graphics, Full support for Microsoft DirectX10 & OpenGL 2.1."

Does anyone know if this card ok for game playing, or would it struggle with some games?

Thanks in advance.

Look here.......... http://www.shop4thai.com/en/category/?cat=19

It is cheaper to buy at a PC shop than online at this store.

Myself have the Asus Silent GeForce 8600GT, Video Memory: 256MB DDR3, Engine Clock: 540MHz, buying from 'Pantip 2' cost 3,790 baht much less than the online price. [1,650 baht cheaper]

Been a long time since I was at Pantip .. so now there is a 'Pantip 2'? Where is it? Close to Pantip 1?

I am a fan of the XFX cards - I have 2 in different computers - latest is a 8600GT which has driven a 19" LCD very well with all the games I have given it over the last 6 months.

For Gaming I would suggest the DNA Drivers only for both Nvidia and ATI Cards. You can download the driver from: http://www.dna-drivers.org/index.php

The DNA Drivers delivers the best result for FS-X or example and I know that all users I know who using this drivers are keen not to change to any other driver.
