So we want a new TV and will use it mainly to watch UBC (for what its worth!) but also would like the HD experience with DVDs. Not really bothered about the full 'cinema experience'.

Knowing little about this subject, but have been looking around..anyone any views? and anyone know anything about the JVC LT-47HZ78 its up for 99999baht at the moment.

Most salesman seem to say Plasma is best, but a few say that 'something in (our) LCD engine' can also give you acceptable UBC viewing....true..false?

Thanks

I have a 46 inch Sharp Aquos 1080p TV in the UK. In terms of screen quality only the Sony X series which is twice as expensive is better and that's a hotly debated subject on the AV forums.

I found that the upscaling engine on the TV is very good indeed. So good that playing King Kong normal DVD through a £20 cheapo no brand DVD player I would have sworn it was an HD DVD!

My friend has a Panasonic LCD and the quality is noticably poorer. The engine makes a huge difference especially if the vast majority of your viewing is not going to be HD output through the HDMI cable. i.e. UBC and normal DVDs

The 46 inch Sharp Aquos ranges in price from £950-£1250 here in the UK so the JVC seems at the high end for what is not at the high end of screens.

This is the TV I have: http://empiredirect.co.uk/content/products...brand~sharp.htm

This is the latest version with an extra HDMI output

I can attest that they are fantastic TVs and I'm really sad to be selling mine, but I am happy I'm returning to Thailand, so it balances out!
