St. Louis Hospital Satorn

In recent years I have started using St. Louis Hospital over BNH. Never had any bad experience at BNH but it was getting more and more pricey with my insurance not covering all costs as it had in the past. The wait for paying and getting prescriptions was also sometimes longer than the actual hospital visit.

Thursday morning coming back from flight (I'm flight crew for a major airline) while picking up my bag and looking forward to getting back to the condo after a 6 day round asia multi hop a passenger dropped their suitcase on my foot. It was quite painfull and I limped to get my car from the parking lot. Got home and slept for several hours and woke up and it was quite swollen and not just black and blue but many colors! I thought I better go get it x-rayed.

It was 7p and I thought I'm going to be here for hours so brought a book along just in case. Arrived at reception. Was asked my name and if I had been here before. I said yes and gave them my insurance card. They pulled my name straight up. Asked me the problem and I explained. Suggested a wheelchair but I said not needed and was escorted to the orthopadics. Checked in, blood pressure and weight checked. Took a seat and immediately was called into the doctor. Doctor spoke excellent English. Two nurses who also spoke excellent English looked on while he examined my foot. He suggested an x-ray and was brought downstairs by the nurse. Again no wait. 3 x rays taken. Brought back up stairs. X-ray was emailed up to the doctor. Brought back into his office and shown the xrays and told no fracture but given ointment and ibuprophen and difelene for swelling. Brought to the cashier and pharmacy. Was presented the bill. 734baht! Given the medicine and sent on my way. Total time spent 35minutes!! Walked across the street and was back in my condo less than an hour after I left it!

In the past few years I've also used the dental clinic and found it be excellent. The class of people I notice that use the hospital is mainly middle class Thai with a few farang. All staff I've spoken to are always pleasant and helpfull. Has all the amenities the other hospitals offer including an Au Bon Pain and an S&P.

My wife/family have used St. Louie's (near Sathorn BTS) for more than four years now for many things and have always had great experiences there. Our main expense there was the prenatal, birth of our daughter in 2002. The charges for the attended birth, doctor's fees and post birth three days in a private room was a grand total of 17,200 baht. At the time it didn't even meet the $500usd deductible fee for my insurance. The main doctor we had was schooled in one of the major colleges in Maryland, USA. The weekly pre-birth checkup charges rarely cost more than 300 baht.

We have been back many times for various health issues/physicals/vaccinations... and they have always been good.

The one thing they will not do at St Louies are Vasectomies, it being a Catholic sponsored hospital. Even so they gave me a referral to BNH, which is another decent hospital. My experience at BNH was not as enjoyable as St. Louie's (they velcro-ed my arms on a cross while they did it) as an out-patient (6,000 baht for that), but I suppose there were extenuating circumstances.

I have used St. Louis for over 10 years, including two occasions when I was admitted. I have had nothing except positive experiences there. I stand to be corrected on this, but I don't think that they have a surcharge for foreigners. My reason for saying this is that I have ordinary Thai health insurance (by which I mean the sort of plan that is sold to Thai people.) When I presented him with the bills, my insurance representative has never remarked that the charges at St. Louis looked excessive.

I am a St. Louis fan also. Haven't had anything major happen to me yet, but have used their general medical clinic, dental clinic, and "special medicine" for neuropathy in my foot due to an attack of shingles. I have found the care to be excellent.

My previous experiences have been with Bumrungrad, BNH and Bangkok-Pattaya hospitals. I'd rate St. Louis as equal or superior to each of those institutions. And it is conveniently located very near the Surasak BTS station in a pleasant area of Bangkook.

i can not compere with other hospitals in bangkok, because i was only at st. louis.

last year i had a similar problem and had to visit the orthopadic, fractured toe. same experience as OP. i feel in very good hand at st. louis. everybody from the reception, the nurses, the x-ray station and the doctor was very pleasant and professional. didn't have to wait at any level.

the financal side: didn't feel overcharged or somethink like that, don't remember the fee, but after visit i show the bill to a friend who have some knowledge and experience in that subject, knows the prices in other hospitals and he told me everything was correct and even a good deal. x ray and consultation at a good price.

next time i will try the dentist there.

I have used BNH, Bumrungrad and St Louis.

I must say that I always felt very comfortable being treated at St Louis, very knowledgeable professional staff throughout and a very reasonable price, furthermore I never felt that I was being pushed to buy superfluous medications or tests. Unfortunately I cant say the same of the others.
