As promised, once my missus got her visa I said I would like to share a positive story on the forum...

We met in January 2005 and spent just over 2 weeks together, due to me not having a job or means of support; i.e. a permanent job we had to wait until August that year to apply for a visit visa.

I prepared it all with help of information on this forum but it didn't help us get around the "not enough reason to return" <deleted>. Due to a problem with royal mail (which meant the documents took 2 months to arrive) we didn't find out about the visa until December. Only 1 thing to say here people - DHL or an alternative may be a bit more expensive but it is worth every penny in my opinion.

Anyway, the application was refused without an interview and I ended up taking the earliest holiday from work I could. We spent another 3 weeks together in different parts of Thailand but all too soon, I had to come back to the UK alone.

The next visa application was going to have to be for settlement!

We ended up applying in August after too many silly delays for different personal reasons (at least it wasn't the postal system this time!) The embassy called on the 8th day after applying to advise of an interview date - in 8 weeks! We were a bit disappointed with having to wait so long but stayed positive and it paid off in the end.

After a 15 minute interview, basically confirming that we knew each other the visa was granted. :o I got the call at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep, we would finally be together permanently within 2 weeks.

Well we have now been together since mid November 2007, the time has flown by. Things couldn't be better and we are going to get married in about 1 month now.

Just want to say a big thanks to all who helped with putting my mind at rest and helping with the few questions I was stuck with finding an answer to. Also to all the people who post their experiences here because it has all helped us to finally be together. :D

Hi,

so happy to here of your success, can i ask what it was that changed thier minds this time, did you marry in thailand, what convinced them of the return to thailand <deleted> as you put it. My thai girlfriend and i are in the same situation. We havent applied for a visa yet, as we feel they will turn us down on that basis too. The only difference for my girl is that she spent 2.5 years in UK with a guy and returned after to thailand. please advise

First of all , congrats Maichorp and good luck in the future.

Sharpie, a Reason to Return is not the be all and end end all of an application.

If you put together a strong and solid case, cover all the bases and convince them of an ongoing and sustainable relationship, this can gather enough credence that out-weighs the Reason to Return.

Don't give up solely for this reason.
