Expats Per Country Of Origin .. Numbers Available?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

does anyone know whether there are numbers for a) Bangkok and :o Pattaya

telling the average percentage or absolute numbers of expats from specific

countries? It would also help to have numbers speaking a certain language.

If nothing of these is available, it would at least give an idea to know where

most expats speaking German are living - in Pattaya, Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

Does anyone know (or at least have a clue?)

thanks,

r.

The only clue I have is the huge number of German restaurants and businesses in Naklua, just north of Pattaya. I know if no such concentration of German businesses anywhere else in Thailand.

There might be figures for the nationality of WP holder but they are a minority of expats in reality and there might be figures at Immigration with the nationality of long term visa holders.

Never seen any myself but the majority of "Expats" are probably in the grey area of visa runs etc.

As for German numbers I find this interesting. When I first started coming to Thailand I reckoned the most numerous farangs were either Britis or Germans but very close. I used to see almost an equal number of Brit Bar's as German but more German restaurants.

With the costs of unification etc and the slowdown of the German economy I noticed a drop off - this may not be born out by actual figures but it was my perception.

Then we had an explosion of other farangs coming to Thailand - esp after 97 and again 2000.
